Hi! I am a new pit bull puppy owner. She is great except we are having problems with her being very defiant. I am not sure if this stubborness is common for the breed or for pups in general. When we aren't allowing her to play-bite, she gets ticked and starts barking very defiantly. We try to play with her toys with her instead but she is trying to own US! We have been trying to put her in her kennel until she relaxes, but it isnt long until she is back at it, biting and barking. Also, the rebellious little thing is 5 months old, knows she is supposed to go outside, yet sometimes will force herself to go inside if we aren't paying attention for a moment. My carpets are asking for your help! IP: Logged |

Around 5 months is when they go through the adolescant(sp?) stage. They are basically teenages, which I think explains a lot! The bathroom thing is just for attention, I would think. Have you tried something like Nature's Miracle? It takes the scent from the carpet so that they don't feel that they have to go whenever they smell it. It saved our carpets! I hope you get it all worked out! *Sarah* IP: Logged |

yeah we went through that too. you need to go to obedience classes asap!! i never let my girl play bite. think about if you ever have guests at your house and your pit wants to play with them, odds are they'll freak out because she's a pit and she's "biting". poeple that know the breed would probably be a little cooler with it though. stubborness is very common in all of the bully breeds, you just have to be extra firm with her. never ever cave in to her demands unless you want her to keep acting the way she is. i dont know if you have any books or not, but you should definately read up if you haven't. as for your carpet lol, i feel your pain. i invested in a steam cleaner, and now my carpet looks as good as new. good luck with your pup!!!!!!!! Any recommendations on curbing the play biting? I have a 7 month old female that just loves to knaw(sp?) on your fingers with those sharp pit teeth. I have some bones & chew toys, but she seems to still ike to nibble on our hands & toes IP: Logged |

Yes, stubborness is part of the breed. There not really hard to train, they just like to test their limits. You have to understand, she is not a child, but a dog, she doesnt understand why she is being put into the kennel, so when she gets out, it's play time again. I have raised numerous pitbulls and I find that they usually grow out of the play biting after about a 9-10 months old, but, if the biting hurts and or getting anoying, usually a light smack on the nose and a firm "NO" will do the trick, but you have to be consistant, dont let her bite sometimes, then when you get tired of it tell her to stop. Cause it wont stop. IP: Logged |
