....a Border COllie to you? I mean, she's not - but I am trying to get an ILP registration with the AKC. Some people have told me that they have seen some really strange dogs with ILP's, but a friend of mine with a similar-looking dog was turned down as a BC. Nala looks more like a BC than his dog, though, but she is definitely a mix. She actually has perfect markings for an Aussie, but they don't come in a smooth variety. Can I say we shaved her for the pictures? LOL. Anyway, take a look at this head shot and tell me if she looks BC-ish or if there is a different angle I can go for that might emphasize the similarities.
The profile body shot is going to be a nightmare...

Yes, that is my girl. Isn't she gorgeous?! *proud momma moment* What I am asking is, do you think she looks anything like a Border Collie in that picture?

Hey again! if you are, you might want her ears to stand up a little more, they look more like lab ears than BC. But then I'm no expert.... Good luck! Susan IP: Logged |

Umm, I'm struggling to say yes, but purely for the tan AND black areas. They come in 2 colours so... do you have to apply for this registration in person, like, will they see Nala, or can you do it just by sending photos? If it doean't really matter that much what they are once they've got the registration and there's no photo ID you have to show to enter events I'd photo shop the tan to black and just say it didn't show up tan in the photo for some reason if anyone asked. hehe, I jest... but if it works... She looks a bit more Kelpi than she does Border. I would try and reg ILP as a Kelpie than I would the Border collie. I think you'll have better luck that way. She looks to have BC in her, and possibly Rotti or Dobi. (shephard?) But I can't tell from just the portrait, kinda need the profile angle to be sure. IP: Logged |

The ears do need to stand up more. Not sure how I could fake that one. BC's come in a tri-color variety, so I don't think the tan is a problem. I think the shape of her body is going to be the biggest hurdle. I just need to get AKC to recognize Appenzellers as an eligible breed - yeah, that's it! Here are some pictures of Nala and real Appenzellers for comparison. Real Appenzeller sitting: Nala sitting: Real Appenzeller standing (no, it's not a statue!):
A Kelpies aren't an AKC breed either, are they? Would it be under "Australian Kelpie"?

My bad, I haven't seen any tri-colour Borders around and really didn't think there were any. Maybe it's just that I didn't notice them before, not being the 'typical' look, I dunno. Nala does look very close to that Appenzeller you've posted tho. IP: Logged |

She's not all that large, Susan - more of a medium-sized dog. She's right around 40ish pounds. Feel free to hug her, but watch your nose or she might nip it off in her excitement! Here is the AKC color standard: "The Border Collie appears in all colors or combination of colors and/or markings. Solid color, bi-color, tri-color, merle and sable dogs are to be judged equally with no one color or pattern preferred over another. White markings may be clear white or ticked to any degree. Random white patches on the body and head are permissible but should not predominate. Color and markings are always secondary to physical evaluation and gait." There is a gorgeous tri-color BC in the Dog Fancy Border Collie magazine (in the check-out lines of PetCo and PetsMart) - so take a browse through it the next time you are waiting in line.

Yeah, Nala was 15 pounds when we got her and I didn't think she looked like a puppy. My dog that died last summer was black and white and had the same sort of ears and only weighed 15 pounds full-grown, so Nala just looked "normal" to me. Now I look back at her pictures and she looks tiny! I feel cheated out of her puppyhood....must collect puppies....ahhhhhhh.....

Hey! We might have a shot! Look at this page: http://www.gis.net/~shepdog/BC_Museum/Permanent/BC_ColorSmooth.html Willow, the first dog on the page, is a smooth-coated tri-color border collie. There is another one further down (Teddy) that is also similar. Wow! There are photo links at the bottom of the page to all the different color possibilities. I love the split face ones! Mike- she'd chew through the box before she got to you.

I've even seen a border collie on one of those agility shows that was all light brown with the typical white markings. Heres my boy that I believe is part border collie. He's tri-color. Which is what some are. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Sorry let me try again: Ok, Is there a new way to do this, I've been computerless for a month, and have tried the insert picture thing and plain out copying it to my post, neither worked, when before it would. Someone please tell. ------------------ [This message has been edited by puttin510 (edited 03-13-2004).] IP: Logged |
