I have a 6mth gold female cocker who is very unsociable to other dogs. she has been to pre school on was a bit better by week 4 but quite quickly forgets her manners. When she does warm to another dog she is very submissive. She is also very protective of me (pack leader) and growls at any dog i show affection too.

I have a cocker too. She is the same way, she doesn't like other doggies. I think that this is because when she was a puppy (she is 7 now) she was not around many other dogs.

Only way to socialize is to bring them around other dogs. My poodle does not like other dogs near me when she is on my lap, but tolerates them when on the ground with them. She does not bother to interact with them nor does she try to attack in any way. But once she is one moms lap, forget any other dogs getting to visit me. Protective or jeolous I'm not sure. Though she does not bite any of them, just wards them off. Just take him for walks, let him meet the neighbor dogs so they won't have crazy barking sessions every time they pass. Your dog is still very young. It takes up to two years for a dog to be a calm, more adult like dog.
