Help!

I am in need of as much instruction as I can possible get. I just got a 4 week old Pekapoo puppy. I would have NEVER taken Precious (that's my baby's name) a day before 8 weeks but I got her from a non-breeder, friend of a friend and this is what she has decided to do. Not the original plan, but what could I do? I was told to take her or leave her and that she had someone else who would take Precious if I didn't.

A neighbor of mine has another baby from the litter and we have decided to keep them together until they are 8 weeks old. We thought that this would be the best thing for them socially and emotionally.

Does anyone have any advise for me? I'm looking for as much information and advice as I can get.

Thanks,
New Mommy

If she can't be with her mom her sibling is good. Have you spoken to a vet about what you should be feeding her. I think she should still be on moms milk of puppie formula at least. Also make sure to get her all of her appropriate shots and dewormers on time and don't allow her around any other dogs until at least 6 months of age. Only dogs that you know have all shots. Including the other pup. If that pup is brought out and is let to play with unknown dogs, pup could bring home an illness, parvo etc. That could lead to death. Keep them in your yard and if you want to bring her out with you put her in a carrier that is not touching the ground. Hope this is a bit of help.

Thank you for replying.

I agree with you. I think that they should still be nursing. Like I said, this was not the plan. We just got Precious this morning, after being notified last night that we would be given our puppy early. I don't have a whole lot of information on why. I wasn't planning on having our new addition for another 4 weeks. But, I'm hoping to minimize any further damage to these babies by getting as educated as possible. And by doing everything it takes to give them all they need to be healthy and happy. Despite the abnormal beginning. I'm prepared to care for these babies... Day and night, whatever it takes.

I was told that the pups have been supplementing with infant baby formula (Simolac) and soft puppy food.

I have a question. The pups have runny noses. How concerned should I be? They look perfectly healthy other than the nose drips. They have been sleeping since we got them but I'm assuming that this is normal.?

I sure appreciate all the advise I can get.

Thanks,
Sunday

Oh my god. Do you really live in san Pedro? So do I. I'm not kidding. So now is the puppies nasal drippings clear or yellowish or green. Its safer if its clear. What vet do you use? I take mine to Dr. Steed and Dr. Weimer up on 25th st. Its called south shores pet clinic. Also I am almost possitive there is a puppy formula available at petco. That would be better for him.
I have heard of people nursing puppies that were abandonad by their mom and have survived and done well.
Also were you able to get a good look at the parent dogs. I only hope that they did not breed dogs that have health issues. You pay pay out the cazzoot for that. But if its not you it will be someone. Something tells me it would be better off in your hands. Some people would not be bothered by an animal that is in need of a vets assistance. They don't think they are worth it. I got my two from the shelter. My terrier mix is from the harbor shelter here in town. Do you believe me now that I live in Pedro. I think a little trip to the vet should be in order. Thats what new puppy owners are told to do, to make sure everything is ok.

Wouldn't it be funny if we already do know each other. If you want to email me heres my addy. puttin510@earthlink.net
I would love to see your puppy. Though my dogs could not meet your pup for at least 6 months. Thats how long they should not be around strange dogs. Though my dogs do get their shots, you never know if a dog could have walked thru something. Now tell me. I could have sworn I saw San Pedro on your post but I can't find it now. Hopefully everything goes well at the vets. Is your pup going to get any shots?

You did see San Pedro on my profile! I took it off when I saw that a lot of people did not list their city. Don't worry! Your not seeing things or going Choo Koo. I sent you an email. I hope you get it. I'm looking forward to chatting with you.

I do plan on getting the puppies their vaccinations as soon as the they are able. We will see what the vet says on Monday.
