I just got the kitten, the wouldnt do surgery because of the way she was acting. She had no food or water after 10 lastnight. Vet said she acts like her motory skills are off and like she cant see. But she wasnt acting like this til I took her to the vet today. I told him she didnt act like that at home. I dont understand. He said he thinks she is hypoglycemic right now. He gave me a syringe filled with sugar water and another one full of it to refill and give each hour. I bought some kitten formula from there and she drank three teaspoons as soon as we got home. Im afraid this kitten is dying or something... now she just lays and when she walks she looks crippled. What Happened? Any advice. Thanks IP: Logged |

Im so sorry about your kitten. Did the vet think she would be alright or say what might have caused this? I hope everything is okay with her. IP: Logged |

You need to make sure she eats, even if you have to feed her yourself with a dropper or needleless syringe. Check the package instructions on the formula, but she probably needs to be eating about 2-3 cc every 3-4 hours. If she isn't better tomorrow you might need to take her to another vet. She might have an infection in which case she would need antibiotics. If she isn't better soon I would get some for her. A lot of kittens get infections, especially when they don't get their mom's milk. I don't believe in failure to thrive, granted sometimes that is probably the case, but I think vets use it as a diagnosis when they don't know what is wrong. I think a lot these cases are from other things like infections. [This message has been edited by fleafly (edited 01-09-2004).] IP: Logged |
