Hello, I just bought a pit bull puppy (Pimp~Devo is his name) from a "friend" that had him for 2 months. They say he is 4 months old. When I first got him Friday He was fine, very energic, friendly and would eat on schedule. I bought him a redish colored bone that he ate in about 10 minutes. On Sunday he started throwing up and had the runs. On Monday he started being lethargic. I was feeding him Mainstay Pro Plan Puppy food. When he stopped eating on Monday I went to pet smart n got him Pro Plan Puppy food as well as 2 cans of Pedigree to entice him to eat. He nibbled but didnt eat much last night or this morning. Now hes under my bed and wont come out so I moved the bed and there are several piles of like a thick clear mucas he coughes up. He still wont eat and barely drinks. When he does drink about 20 minutes later he coughes up the clear thick slimey stuff. The envrionment he was in was with 3 small weenie dogs and several cats as well as several adults n kids. Here its just me and my husband, but I am home most of the day to play. Any ideas if this could be just depression or a more serious issue. I am really scared. 3 Days ago he was even in the stomach area, now his lil tummy is all sunken in and his nose and paws are ice cold. What should I do? I've never had a pit bull before him, and I dont know of anything else to do. PLEASE HELP! ------------------ IP: Logged |

you need to get him to the vet quick!! like yesterday quick. im no vet or anything but my dog was showing those same symptoms and it turned out that she had parvo. i dont want to scare you or anything but parvo is deadly for puppies. you seriously need to go to the vet fast. and dont go to one of those emergency clinics they're a rip off, just go to regular vet office. good luck and let us know how everything goes. pits usually do good with parvo so im told. hey im in dallas too?!?! but ummm do you have a credit card? that would work or you could write a hot check i wouldnt recomend that though. i know there used to be a vet that was really good at macarther and beltline in the coppell area but that was a few years back. im sure they'll work with you. and i know petsmart has a vet clinic i dont know how good they are. if it is parvo they may have to keep the little guy a few days. roxy's vet bill came out to be around $600. when you bought the pup did you get any sort of contract? you should contact the people you got him from and let them know whats going on, and see if they would be willing to help you out. because more than likely your pup got it from one of there animals if thats what he has. when you got him did they say if he had his vaccinations? VET VET VET a puppy will often get an upset stomach if something doesnt settle well but that should usually pass shortly after the vomit you may need a special diet my beagle can eat anything but face anything other than dogfood and its a bad deal but since its your first pit get the most out it and as always make sure you get a print out of everything from the vet incase you arent pleased that particular vet some will probably agree that with a pit you will see a difference in the way some vets care for your dog I dont meen that their mean but ive had a bunch you just start to get that vibe after the closest vet is 2 miles from my house and I gave them 1 chance and I now drive 62 miles to my hometown to get great treatment as always good luck IP: Logged |

I dont have a cc or checks. He so innocent, I cant stop crying for him. Im looking in the yellow pages but really Im lost and scared for him. Whered you take your puppy? IP: Logged |

most vets want their money upfront but in a bad situation a good vet will give you one chance what you will owe will be a drop in the bucket to most vets but by any means if you can prove that you and your vet are legit I might be able to help but you will have to do your homework Id love to help but I dont know you so your gonna have to have some legit info IP: Logged |

Unseen, Please, just start caling vets and asking them for your help. They are trained professionals, and are there to provide you with advice and help. The next thing I would do is call the authorities on the guy who fights pits, or else on the people you bought yours from. They are abiously a BYB because I have never heard of Pit going for $150!! Please, without people calling the authorities on monster like that, more pits are going to needlessly die in cruel and unusual ways. If this doesnt change your mind go to www.pet-abuse.com and look at some of the pits that were a result of fighting. Sorry I know thats off topic, but please do take your puppy to a vet ASAP. You have waited far too long. While your there you should have him vaccinated as well. Leslie ------------------ IP: Logged |

What do you mean? Legit info? I have no papers on the doggie. (He just drank after I carried him to the bowl. But I dont know how long he'll hold it down. I have him on a plastic bean bag in case he gets sick again. It looks like hes dryheaving or his tummy is spasming. But nothing is coming up. He just looks so sad. ) Like I said this is my first Pit and well really my first Dog since my Pikineese (sp?) about 2 years ago. Im on msn or yahoo. lifeafterfaque@yahoo.com or moonpeace69@hotmail.com IP: Logged |

Ok, I took him to N Dallas Vet Hospitol. They gave him like three shots and said to return in the morining. It is Parvo. They gave him an iv of water below his skin So there are two softball sized lumps on his shoulders. They wanted 300 now and 300 hundred after to keep him and give a 50/50 shot at living. I paid the 65 I had saved in Safe money and am bleaching the carpets where he was sick. In all honesty What are his chances of living? What else can I do? I do not have 600 dollars. I dont have any family. I live from check to check. But I have a lot of time and love, seems nowadays that dosent mean much. IP: Logged |

it was parvo? damn i'm good!! i really do feel your pain. i dont really know what to tell you just pray. you really need to hound those people that you got him from. if it was me i would call them and tell them if they dont want to help you then you'll have no option but to take him to small claims court. get an attorney and have him write them a letter. that would be my route anyways. when did he start throwing up? i mean i think that vets just say that whole 50/50 chance to cover there rear. i think your dog will be alright. go visit him as much as you can. he'll look really sad and pathetic and you'll probably cry, but it will help alot if you keep his spirits up. just take note of how he looks then notice how he will wag his tail for you. it really touches your heart. you could just get a little part time job somewhere? since you said that you're home most of the day. you could try being a waitress that'll put some quick dough in your pocket. but keep us posted on your pup and how things are going. both of you guys are in my prayers take care p.s. i have had 2 pits in my lifetime and they both came down with parvo when they were puppies, and both of them made it. Your vet can insert an Iv cath in your dog and show you how to administer the fluids and antibiotics but some vets however would prefer you to leave your dog over several days so then they can charge you boarding cost. You might ask your vet if sending you home with the supplies is an option. Also giving your puppy small amounts of pedialyte in a dropper or syringe will help it stay somewhat hydrated. We made it through the night! Went back to the vet this morning for more IV water under his skin and meds. His tail is a waggin and he ate a bite of the food the vet sent home. The vet is doing all this for only 55.75 Can you believe it? I can't. I mean Wow, There really are caring people out there. It sucks to have this happen, but it has renewed some faith in me! Thank you all!!! And may your pups all be healthy! IP: Logged |

Hello: How is puppy doing? I wanted to let you know that many volunteer organizations will donate money to help people in the situation that you are in. Start by asking your vet what volunteer organizations are in your area. I.e. Animal welfare coalitions, volunteer services for animals, Hope for Animals. etc. Each state has plenty. IP: Logged |

Hi facedog, (I tried to just reply to the email you have at Yahoo but It failed so Ill post my letter here! ) ***It wasnt one of those bones they chew on forever it was crunchy but not real hard. I already threw out the package. He seems to be doing much better and I want to thank you for helping me calm myself. I was really emotional when I posted the first time. I just got him to eat another bite of the perscription food and he drank another cup and a half of water. I'm so nervous. Hes just such a SPECIAL dog and hes got a really innocent heart. His tail and ears are not clipped so he looks really sweet and not quite as scarry as most Pit Bulls. Like I said I don't know a whole lot about dogs, except the things that come naturally like the emotional bond that I seem to have with Devo. The vet at North Dallas Vet Hospitol on Forest is pretty much doing this out of the goodness of his heart. He charged me 55.75 today for yesterday and today! Tommorow morning Im not sure but I went ahead and sold a few things to make sure I have the$$. I want to really express my thanks to you for responding and offering your advice as well as being willing to help with the cash. You are one in a million and after Devo gets better well have to all get together at the dog park or something! I mean what were the chances Id log on and someone so close would be there to help me? Your timing was perfect! Thank you again......Your pups are very lucky! Do you have pictures? I will get some soon after hes better, I know hes going to be ok. BTW: Do you know of the aftereffects of Parvo? Does it just go away and the dogs fine or are there life long effects? I tried looking around on the net but every site seems to say something different.

Wow you were lucky. Let your vet know how much you appreciate this, and if i were you i would use that vet from now on. If you dont know much about dogs, reaseach the pitbull alot and start socialising now, to save from hassel later on in life. Good luck IP: Logged |

parvo might make your dog a little clingy, thats how hurricane was. but i had gotten him when he was 5 weeks old so he may have been like that anyways from being separated from his litter too early. parvo can also stunt a dogs growth. some people say that it can ruin there conformation but i dont really know about that one. you're dogs gonna be fine IP: Logged |
