Okay, i'm not totally clueless as to what an American Staffordshire Terrier is, & what an American Pitbull is, but someone asked me a question that i knew i would definatly come across, it was: What is the difference between an Am.Staff, & an Am.Pit?? I did'nt really know how to give an educated answer. I simply just said, that an Am.Staff is basicaly a Pitbull (i'm probably wrong), & that it was just a safer way to say Pitbull... LOL! Can you all share your knowledge w/ me??? I'd r e a l l y appreciate it, THANKS....

Somebody asked about this a while back, so rather than post again, here's the old thread: http://www.auspet.com/ubb/Forum7/HTML/000277.html

As far as what you generally see out and about... you're more likely to see APBTs (both the unregistered "pit bulls" who can be assumed to be APBTs, and registered APBTs), then AmStaffs (less common in most places because a. "staffordshire terrier" just doesn't have the same badazz quality for insecure people looking for a tough dog to parade around and make money off of; and b. many AmStaff breeders are more picky about who they sell pups to compared to APBT breeders, and these breeders and their buyers aren't pumping out pups to anyone with a little $$, so there are less AmStaffs out there (again, not ALL AmStaff breeders are like that, some are scum, but you'll find that in any breed). If someone starts telling you about their red nosed "staffordshire terrier", chances are they either don't know what they're talking about; think "APBT" and "AmStaff" are interchangeable; OR have been lied to by their breeder/friends, as red noses are a conformation DQ (or maybe just a major fault, I don't remember) in AmStaffs, and as such, are VERY uncommon.

Hey goob your right on with that answer.Pits and amstaffs are really close cousins coming from the same dogs several pits were let into the akc to be reg. and they didn't like the term "pitbull" so they changed it to american stafforshire terrier.I guess it sounds a little fancier..lol...They did that in the 1930'sfrom then on most amstaffs were bred a little different. They were bred more for comformation and many people say less gameness.....and about the red nose topic that is considered a major fault in an amstaff they shouldn't have a red nose.I have owned both breeds and they act quite similer here is a pic of my 11 mo. old pup......he's an amstaff.
