hey every 1 i was wondering if i could use beech drift wood if i soaked it in a bleach selution for like a week then rinsed it and soacked it in norm water with out bleach and add a hole lot of dechlorinizer? then bake it>?? in the oven till dry then soack it in aquarium water untill it sinks again?

this is just me speaking, but dont ever use bleach for your aquarium. it is to risky to take a chance of even having a trace of the chemicals getting into your tank. why would you want to bleach the wood? their mite be a different way to do what you want without the chemicals.

To be on the safe side, I would avoid bleacing something as porous as wood. Plus, if you bleach it, it will lose a lot of its color.

I would just boil it for about an hour. That sould kill any critters in it and also help remove some of the tannis.

that is what I did and it worked great- I have not had any problems with it and it have been several months. I boiled it and then soaked it until the water was clear.
I also had to anchor the driftwood down with rocks and aquarium sealant. Even though it was water logged it still wont sink without being anchored...and I had to use 2 heavy rocks. It is actually amazing the amount of bouyancy there is-- I suppose that is where it name came from!

I like malasian driftwood because it sinks w/o having to be weighted down.

shoot i was hoping to find drift wood that would sink i have 1 chunk that sunk... the rest are floaters hope they sink lol nuts....
