Okay, how about Irridescent sharks, I recently bought one and its about 3 inches, I have it in a 29 gallon tank until summer comes around then i plan on either getting a 75 gallon tank, or putting it in our yard pond for the summer. But I am curious on what I should go with as far as fish to go with it, i had convicts before and they got really annoying, cuz all they would do is bread, so now i have that shark and a pleco in a 29 gallon and was wondering what else i should get to go with it, i was thinkin' like a bala, and a pictus cat, or quarry cats, or maybe some danios or some type of schooling fish, what would you all recommend???

An iridescent shark won't fit in a 75 gallon aquarium when it's full grown since they can get over 4 feet long. It could probably go in the pond, but it would have to be a very large pond and during the winter you would have to have to find some way to house it indoors or get a pond heater. Personally, I would just return it and get something you can house a little more easily in your current tank.

I would also avoid bala sharks since they are schooling fish and can get around 14". They're also very active and aren't really suited for the typical home aquarium.

Pictus cats can get up to 10" so that would be pushing the limit of the 29 but it would be okay for a 75. Cory cats would be great for a 29 gallon. And some tetras or danios would be good schooling fish.

He's stunted by being in a tank that is too small. Chances are he will be more susceptible to diseases and will live a much shorter lifespan. He may grow if you put him in a bigger tank, but after a year, he may be so stunted he won't grow. I would at least put him in a larger tank, it would probably make him happier.

I have the same issue with a pleco. My dad loves plecos but the only ones available around here are commons. So Dad bought about 5 of them on impulse and one went into a 10 gallon. Dad is a firm believer that fish grow to the size of their tank (which is sort of what stunting is, but it's not healthy) and I've really just given up arguing with him. Anyway, I've since moved it to the 55 gallon and it has grown some. Of course now I have all these plecos that I'm going to have to keep rotating up to my 75 gallon then try to find homes for them when they get closer to their full size. But at least now I've gotten my parents to consult me before buying any new fish.

He might get picked on by the oscar and RD, but you can try it. Just keep an eye on them.
