I was just wondering if 10 fish in a 20 gallon tank was to much and if I would be able to get a pair of guppies to breed and survive in there. IP: Logged |

what type of fish are they? its supposed to be a gallon for every inch of fish and mabe add in a few more gallons for confort. if they are small fish and have lots of plants and things to make territorys then it shouldnt be a problem for 2 more guppies.but only if you have enough room. IP: Logged |

First off, to clear up a common misconception, take the 1" per gallon rule, role it up in a little ball, and throw it squarely in the trash. While it may work for small tetras, danios and their ilk, it is practically useless for anything larger. Coudn't have a 12" Oscar in a 12g tank could we The Frog requires 2-3 gallons alone according to T_Chelle. The Dojo Loach will get about 8" and in that respect, could possibly live comfortably, but not thrive in a 20. All in all I'd say you're alright. Don't add anymore though as that may prove to be too much of a bio-load on your filtration. [This message has been edited by dvross (edited 02-04-2004).] IP: Logged |

I had two dwarf frogs and they seemed fine for about 0ne week .but one day I went to check on them and the one was dead and it mouth was really red. And all I have a 2.3g with a cray fish I was thinking of buying some feeder guppies would that work and would my crayfish eat them because I had a black moor and a cory but one day I came to check on them and both there heads were floating at the top. Yup the crayfish would eat them. Crayfish are VERY voracious predators to smaller fish and as you've seen, have no problem calling your livestock - "Lunch". IP: Logged |

Yes you can but you'll probably want a special breeding container where the fry can drop through to a different compartment. The adults will eat their own fry if given the chance. You'll probably want to have a separate growout tank for them with some java moss to hide in... IP: Logged |

The net breeders are the same.. If the fry can drop through the net cool - just be careful there's no other carnivorous fish in the tank. If they cannot - they will be eaten. You're already at your max stocking level. I wouldn't advise adding any more fish at this point.. IP: Logged |
