Ok, it is official, my beta has a thin slime like substance on its tail and this
has happened to one of my previous fish(not a beta) too, why is this happening?
Can somebody tell me, obviously it is some kind of bacteria that is attacing the fish right?

b.t.w do I need a heater in my tank if I have a air pump?

You need a heater and if your new to fishkeeping get a termometer too. After a while you can just feel the side of the tank and tell if the temp. is right. You should keep the water inbetween 76 and 82 As far as an air pump it has nothing to do with it as long as your talking about a beta. Beta fish do not need an air pump if you like it for looks it won't hurt anything.

As far as the problem your talking about it sounds like a fungus or bacteria. Do more research then you will probably find that you need to medicate with an antibacterial or something.
