Hello All,

Abbey is 8 months old and she eats dry Wellness Super5mix Puppy with a tablespoon of Wellness Wet Puppy, and up until a few weeks ago, she would eat the whole bowl in a matter of minutes. Lately she eats half, and walks away. Once she leaves the bowl, even if she is not finsishd I throw out whatevers she has left. I do this because I feed her twice daily, not free feed, and I do not want her to get in a habit of eating when she wants and thinking that food will be in the bowl later.
Am I doing the right thing?
Could she be eating less cause she is still on puppy food, should I switch her to adult food?

Any ideas?

Thanks!

As long as she is maintaining her weight I would'nt be too concerned about it. Puppies calorie needs decrease as they get older so maybe this is why she is not finishing her meals? I think it would be fine to switch her over to adult food at this point but you can ask your vet if you're unsure.

Thanks Nern,

I called my vet and she thinks that the adult food would be fine.
I forgot to ask her this, do I transition the food as if switching brands?

Yes, I would transition the food slowly just to be safe. If you don't have much puppy food left, and since you are staying with the same brand and just moving from puppy to adult, I bet the transition would go fine cold turkey. But if you have puppy food on hand anyway, you may as well mix it.
