Hi Everyone- I am having issues with a situation right now, here's the background:

We got Cameron from a friend who had had her for two days and did not think she could handle her- she bought her from a Petstore called Pet City Pets in Ypsilanti, MI. Cameron did have some issues- she had kennel cough, which the petstore owner had given antiobotics to my friend to finish treating (it was almost gone), and she also had stomach issues (still has a few), and had diarriah a lot as a puppy. Anyway, I have since met 2 other people who also got pug/beagle mixes from this petstore, and have had the same problems: Their puppies seemed a little sickly when they got them, though both said the puppies had since gotten better, but in both cases the diariah issue was still there, and their dogs often had it.

Just recently, a coworker of mine purchased a "puggle" puppy from the same petstore. Well, she just e-mailed me, and she had to take it back today because it was coughing and snot was coming out of it's nose, and it was having diariah everywhere.

I am begining to see a pattern here.....

When we got Cameron, we got all her records and "hybrid papers" (how ridiculous) with her. I for one don't believe in buying from Petstores, but I was very glad to have gotten Cameron from my friend and give her a home before she took her back, because I fell in love with her immediately. Anyway, I wanted to check into her background, so I went online and found the Kennel she was from. I don't have the papers with me at work or I could give the name- I will post that later. Anyway, the Kennel looked very nice and humane, and they even claimed that they had been approved by the humane society. I know you should never believe everything you read, but I even saw pictures, and all the dogs looked very happy and like they had lots of land to roam on.

Initially, it made me feel a little better about where my pup came from, but all the recent findings I have made about other puppies coming from this Petstore and likely the same Kennel really make me wonder..

My question is this- is it possible for me to call the local humane society in that area to investigate the Kennel, or call the ASPCA or some place like that? The Kennel is in Wisconsin. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Also, do young pups often have Diariah and I am overreacting? I just feel like something's not right here.

I don't know what to do firthand, but I would definitely start making phone calls. The Humane Society or ASPCA should be able to direct you to the right person or agency to talk to.

It's possible that the kennel is not at fault but the store is. If the pups are not cared for correctly at the store and the place is poorly sanitized, then it doesn't matter how healthy they are when they come in - they will be sick going out.

I think some places do have the attitude of "all pups get kennel cough" or "all pups get diarrhea" but that is a cop-out in my book, and just an excuse for being lazy. Sure, some dogs get sick but they should be trying their best to prevent it.

Ok, you said you saw the internet site of the kennel??? I have a suspician that it's probably not the kennel that the puppy came from. Anyone can take photos of kennels and call them their own.

This sounds like a Pet store with Puppy mill relations.

What you can do:

Call your ASPCA, have them investigate the situation.
Boycott that perticular Pet store.
Write to your editor of the paper, telling the story and situations you've discovered so that the public can be aware!!!

I'm glad you got her as well. Its sad, but somany puppies and dogs have the same problems from idiots who BYB and Puppy Mills.

We have to stop it, us animal lovers are the ones that hold the future in our hands. I'll help in any way I can. Please let me know the store and addy if you have it. I'll write a complaint, and find out where the puppies come from.

If they are claiming approval by the local Humane Society I would start with getting affirmation on that. Call that humane society and ask if it's true.
