Are 2 Aussies better than 1? WE have an almost 5 month old male Aussie. He is a great family pet and smart but needs a lot of attention. I'm interested in anyones opinions if we should get another one so he has a constant play mate. IP: Logged |

Hi, I just found this. Two are better than one but ask yourself if you can afford double the feed, double the attention, double, the grooming, and double the training. As the owner of 3 dogs I noticed that my youngest (2 year old Aussie boy) gets a kick out playing with my 8 year old GSD mix and 6 year old Siberian. Just make sure you can handle two pups. I'd suggest you wait till the pup is older to get own so you can devote time to training. In the meantime find friend's with dogs who will play with yours. Maybe you'll find a puppy for him to play with. Good luck, Aussies are a very fun breed to own! Gracias, IP: Logged |

I have two and it was the RIGHT thing to do!! Now they have a playmate when I am not home and they DO need to play. A yard is very important and tho they are more active than I would of liked I love them dearly...they are the sweetest and best pets!!!!!! ( the males seem to be a little more mellow than the females, and I have one of each) IP: Logged |

we just bought a new aussie puppy this morning. She replaces one that died last march and will be the new companion for our 10 year old Aussie. I would never have only one. They need the companionship and they take care of each other. IP: Logged |

We just got a male Aussie pup (he's 3 months now). Our old Aussie (12 yrs) has been very patient but gets tired of the pup bugging him sometimes so we have to give him his alone time. The pup is nipping a lot and jumping. the vet says we're supposed to ignore him when he does it but it's pretty impossible when he's jumping up and biting our clothing. What works? IP: Logged |

HI susan, Try holding the pups feet for a few seconds when he jumps on you..This is quite uncomfortable to them and they will stop. But make sure you touch his feet in possitive ways when not doing this exersice. You don't want this to be the only foot contact you have with him. And for the nipping use your hand holding the bottom of his jaw with your fingers and press down on his tongue not to hard with your thumb. This is also uncomfortable. Never do this harshly you have to be calm and gentle and he will get the drift it isn't fun to bite and jump. And give him treats when he is not jumping or nipping and lots of praise. Hope this helps. Kipper IP: Logged |
