I have a female Welsh Springer spaniel (almost 4 years old) and a kitten (just about 4 months old). They get along very well (most of the time anyway!) however i constantly find the dog eating out of the litter box. Im not sure what to do. I have sprayed her with the water bottle, not let her in the room, however i must keep the door open to give the kitten access to her box. Any tips on how to keep my nosy pup out of the litter box?? We had the same problem, the only solution we came up with was making sure that the kitty litter box was cleaned out before the dog got there, so that there is no poop for him to eat. After a few weeks of this, he kind've ignores the litter box, no snacks in it anymore! (yeah, I know, gross!) IP: Logged |

My dog has eaten a few. I think that they have covers for the litter box. I would check into if they have something just big enough for your cat to get in and out. ------------------ IP: Logged |

We have just brought two new kitties into our house, so the introduction between them and our 5 year old dog is not yet complete. We do know, however, that our dog likes the litter box . I have put up a nice gate at the laundry room door. The cats can go under the gate to their food and box, but the pup cannot. IP: Logged |

We keep our litterbox in a room with a babygate that is about 7 inches off the floor. Kitties can go in, but doggie can't. We also keep the catfood in there. It has become the cat room...no dogs allowed!

Oops, I just noticed someone else already gave this suggestion! It really works, tho. You can buy real nice gates at babystores that install on the doorframe and swing shut with a latch. Saves from putting it up and down all the time. IP: Logged |
