Hello, I could use some advise. My mini dauchsund is prenant by either a pomeranian or our own shitsu (which has just been fixed)Our Shitsu was only four months old when our mini dauchsund got pregnant, and we never saw him get to her. But there was a pomeranian that snuck into our yard that we were unable to keep out...I think he got her..but what if the shitsu got her? is he too big? will her pups be too big? I just spent a ton of money at the vet, and can't afford to take her... What should i do? Can you help me???? WITH ADVISE....THANKS! VERY NERVOUSE PET OWNER.... IP: Logged |

Hi I will say at this point you really need to take her to the vet so can do an ultrasound to see how big the puppies are so you can make the right decsion to care on. Hope everything turns out okay Miranda IP: Logged |

I agree that you need to take her to the vet. Most clinics are very willing to work with you as far as post dating checks or making payments, as they would rather wait for their money than see an animal be in danger. I'd call around and see if you can find someplace that will work with you. IP: Logged |

HI, Its unlikely that your Shitsu is the father as you say he was only 4months old when she fell pregnant. How old is she??? If it was the pomeranian the puppies maybe to big for her to free whelp... Please take her to a vets for an ultra sound and to check how she is doing.. Also have you thought about having her spayed it will reduce the risk of ovarian cancers mamary tumours and so on. Plus wil reduce the number of unwanted and abandoned puppies out there... IP: Logged |

I'm not sure how this works...but...thanks for the advise. I was planning to have her fixed after the pup was done, but she got pregnant first. I will take her to the vet, and will let you know how it turns out. She is two years old and very sweet...I would abort the pups but I don't feel comfortable doing that. I have been reading up on it, and it sounds like she's not far enouph yet to tell how big the pups are or how many there are yet... she's around three weeks pregnant now. Thanks again...Susan IP: Logged |

Thanks CHARMEDAGAIN...You seem to realy know your stuff! I tell you, I am so nervouse about her having babies! She's my baby (so to speak) Do they cry when they are having them? I have never seen a dog have pups before. I had a German Sheperd years ago that had puppies, but I didn't wittness it myself. I just know she's going to have them while my husband is at work..That will be my luck...We just moved to the Coast, so I'm alone in this...I have been reading all I can find to help, but it makes it worse sometimes because of what can go wrong...My husband say's I should just chill out! they know what they're doing....I suppose he's right of coarse. Anyway...THANKS AGAIN... P.S. I'm sure the vet will make me feel better.... IP: Logged |

Hi Susan. You will be OK. Maybe around the time that your dog is ready to have her pups, your husband can get some time off. If not your vet will help and maybe give you a phone number to call if there are any problems. You said that you have a mini dauchsund, maybe there is a club around your area that you can contact and help with some guidence. You said you are new to the area, it could be a great way to meet some new people. Let us know how things are going and keep us posted!!! Good luck! Things will be OK. IP: Logged |

Thank you so much! you all have been so helpful and nice. I really appreciate it...It turns out that she (Casey my dog) is further along than first thought, about 6 1/2 weeks, so it wont be long now. My husband is building her a whelping box, and I have read up and know what to expect "I hope" . I will let you know what she has or maybe I will be talking to you around time for her to have them. Either way will let you know... Thanks again.. I will look into dog clubs as suggested.....Sincerely, Susan P.S. Don't worry she is seeing a vet... IP: Logged |
