....people cut off the tails and ears of Pits? Is it for looks or health reasons? My puppy wasn't clipped and I hesitate to get it done because I think hes perfect just the way he is. Also at what age is it possed to be done? And dosent it hurt the lil guy? Oh yea is it normal for my pit to snore louder than my Husband? ------------------ IP: Logged |

No no no dont do it, it is done for looks not health, if you think hes perfect as he is leave it, i dont care what people say it does hurt, i mean how would you like it having half your ear cut off and taped etc. they do it so they look vicious. IP: Logged |

Alright I understand peoples personel opinion against ear cropping, but to say that people only do it to make there dogs look vicious is rediculous. I don't think it makes them look vicious, and I chose to crop my boys ears for show reasons. They will have alot better of a chance in the ring with the nice clean look. I don't know why people dock the tails on apbt's but if I had a rottie I would dock his tail. It's just up to personel prefrence. You should have them done at around 3 months old, and I don't think it hurts them that much. Justice was running around the next day like nothing even happend. Thats not to say that it don't hurt, just in my experience it did't seem to bother him. Do you really think he looks vicious...... IP: Logged |

Only an idiot would cut off a Pit Bulls tail. Here are before and after pics.
And no Rio I don't do it so they look vicious. It can be done for looks when people show dogs or for safetly reasons when people have working dogs. This was all disscussed on a previous thread. http://www.auspet.com/ubb/Forum7/HTML/000606.html [This message has been edited by True_Pits (edited 02-27-2004).] IP: Logged |

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that I think your dog Justice is so BEAUTIFUL!! I'm the proud owner of a pit bull. Her name is Jada and I think the breed rocks!! She is one of the best dog's that I have ever owned. I live in Colorado and I don't know if any of you have seen all the bad things that have happened lately with pit bulls in the Denver area!? Docking a APBT tail is like docking an ACD...unnessesary unless they are for the looks. Like Blue heelers and most other working breeds, Tails are for balance. They use them as rutters when driving, herding, and running and making fast turns. I don't see where the ear cropping is a bad idea, unless done by an unproffesional or unlicenced vet. I like both looks. Thankfully I don't have this problem with my dogs, they have naturally erect ears, and No I don't dock tails, its NOT part of the breed standard. anyone with working dogs knows the requirements, or should.
