Hello Again, First off thanks to all that have replied to my post. I think all your answers were great. The only problem is I have 2 big dogs that could probably eat more food in one sitting than I could, so a big part of my problem is finacial I can afford the 20lb bags of dog food but and even the canned food, but my dogs taste has escalated to lamb and if I give it to them for more than 2 days in a row they turn their noses up even to that. Thats how spoiled they are. My husband bought a lamb roast way to much for him because I hate it, so I figured I would give it to them they ate happily for 2 days we still had enough for 1 more day and when I gave it to them they both looked at me like I lost my mind, so they had mac and cheese mixed into their dry food. They will pick out the human food and leave the dog food. I have tried to slowly put less and less human food but they pick it out and leave the rest. I have wasted so much money on having to throw out the dog food the did not eat. It has been 3 days now that I have not mixed anything in their food and they have not eatten it, they may take a bite now and then, but for the most part they go in and look at their bowls, then they give me a dirty look and walk out.I feel so bad when they look at me, I know they are not sick they are just being stubborn. How long do you think they will go without eatting it, and yes I have tried different brands of dry food. I have an 80lb 11month black lab and a 3year old Amstaff that weighs about 65lbs. Please tell me what I should do. Am I doing the right thing by making them see they have to eat what we give them? Any words of wisdom will help! THANKS AGAIN! IP: Logged |

I would just stop the people food all together and put them on a feeding schedule. Put a bowl of dog food down twice per day for about 15 minutes each time...then remove any uneaten portions. After a few days of this they should start eating the dog food. I know its difficult (I've tried this with one of mine) but more times than not this will work to get a healthy, picky dog to eat. Best of luck. IP: Logged |

Hey Nern, I love that idea! my sister has the same problem with her dogs. They give them way too much people food, then wonder why they won't eat! go figure! I'll be telling her what you said...Thanks! I know this wasn't meant for me, but we can all benefit....Susan Hi, Girlgirl2, hope this helps you too.... IP: Logged |

Definately go with Nern's idea. We do the same. Now we leave out a self feeder all the time. We never know when the dogs have to go "work" and when they'll get a chance to get pup food. So they much at their leasier.... IP: Logged |
