Please post this to any other site, e-mail list or any other place you feel may be helpful. On New Years Eve my friend was walking her dog when he picked up the scent of a deer trail and took off into the woods in deep snow. It was close to nightfall and he didn't return home. My friend Janeen and a couple neighbors have been out searching for him everyday. Please ...if you live in this area or know someone who does (send this along to them) keep your eyes and ears open for him.

UPDATE!! BlueJeans was found tonight and is safe at home with his mum. You would not believe how many people pitched in and did every little thing they could to get this dog back home. The husband of the woman who is the head of Rimrock Humane Society found him no less! He found him on the side of the road, hunkered down and pretty much a pupsicle. He drove him home to my firend Janeen and made her New Year a truely happy one. IP: Logged |

Wow what wonderful news. I hope that dog learned his lesson on being recalled. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Hi Maisey, I'm so glad it had a good ending. Was the dog hurt in any way? Or just real hungry! Susan IP: Logged |

I am thrilled as well, if anyone on the planet deserves a dog it's Janeen. She is an older woman, widowed and a cattle rancher. Since her husbands death she has been ranching alone and she depends on her two Catahoulas for help. She recently lost her elderly Catahoula Gypsy to cancer, it was heart breaking to say the least. She decided to rescue BlueJeans a couple months ago so he is fairly new to her. Puttin, Catahoulas are bay dogs, used for hunting. It's what they do. I doubt many Catahoulas (or other hunting bred dogs) would or could resist trailing a deer, the trail was very fresh. It wasn't an obedience thing...he didn't ignore her recall, its instinct, natural. He was found in a ditch on the roadside fairly close to her property, he was suffering from confusion, which is the first signs of hypothermia from what I understand. He didn't recognize her right off and seemed disoriented. They think this is why he was so close to home...he was probably heading that way but the cold got to him and he just got disoriented. He had dug a hole in the snow under a fir tree and had hunkered down trying to stay warm. He was camoflauged very well. He doesn't seem to have any frostbite, he had a few scratches from barbed wire and his ear tips were bothering him. Of course he is ravenously hungry and exhausted. They were expecting temperatures to drop to 25 below zero with a storm thats moving in so he is very lucky to be warm and well in his bed tonight. Janeen says he is "grounded" for a while and he will only be roaming the property with her on a leash until the weather is warmer and he has had more time to get to know the property. I'm just so happy it turned out the way it did, you all don't know her and there's no way for me to convey to you in a simple post what a wonderful inspiring woman Janeen is, or the things that have happened over the last couple of years in her life that made it so much more important that nothing happen to this dog...all the same, it's wonderful to share the news with you, you will just have to trust me when I say this was truely a New Years Miracle for a woman who very much deserved one.
