![]() ![]() ![]() Is there really a difference Silicone? Do I need to pay high dollar for "Aquarium" Silicone at a Pet Store vs. 100% Silicone at Home Depot? On another note: Has anyone tried IPS Weld-On #3 or #4 for "Glueing" Plexiglass? Thanks IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Some silicones will have chemicals in them to prevent mold and bacteria. I do know for a fact that Mainstays (Walmart brand?) silicone is safe. -Chelle IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() Hi Tim, I can't really prove it but I definately believe there is a difference. I used Dow Silicone purchased from a hardware store. Although it looked and smelled exactly like the Silicone made for aquariums ever since I used it on a 30 gallon long tank I couldn't keep fish in that tank. Every time I put fish in it they would die in about a weeks time with no apparent cause. So I would suggest, just bite the bullet and pay the higher price for the Silicone made specifically for aquariums. IP: Logged |
