Ok this is going to sound a little icky. I have a little chihuahua..bout 2 pounds...8 months old. He's a boy but has not yet begun to lift his leg...he still does that..boy squat when he pees. Ive been noticing something for the past few weeks that strikes me as odd and makes me wish hed start lifiting his leg. He squats to start to pee...and then while he is peeing...he starts...humping the air and so his hips angle upwards and he ends up getting pee on his chest....so every time i take him off...i have to rinse him off too. Any clue as to why he does this?? Its really the weirdest..and grossest thing. Im glad at least that hes shorthaired and pretty small so hes easy to clean up =/ IP: Logged |

I have no idea, but that does sound really odd. Perhaps he's getting "turned on" by relieving himself?? IP: Logged |

lol! Thats very strange! Every single time he does it..not just in the mornings when he really has to go either. Its gross! He is not fixed yet and is getting to that age where I keep expecting him to start humping stuffed animals but I havent seen him do any of that yet. He did hump my poodles ankle once so I know he CAN do it. I tell myself hes embarrassed to do it in public so if he does it while he pees...its a cover up! IP: Logged |

He he he, maybe. Perhaps he could have a bladder infection? Maybe he's not humping, but perhaps hes in pain as he pee's and it causes him to spasm??? Iknow when I had a UTI I flinched when I had to go as well.... IP: Logged |

Hrmm...it doesnt really SEEM like hes wincing..but maybe he is. There an easy way to tell or do I just need to take him in to have him tested? IP: Logged |

lol@kela "it's a cover up"... hehe... that truly made me laugh out loud. too cute! my Bailey is almost 10 months old and he still squats sometimes and lifts his leg other times. It just depends on the territory - for ex: our back yard doesn't have any trees, so he squats, but when we go for his walk at night, he lifts! walahhh. anyhow, he JUST RECENTLY (last month) started lifting his leg..... i was getting worried too - but they say they can wait until a year to start lifting... hmm?... anyhow, I do have to say he hasn't done the "hump while you pee" (get it while you can?) mode But, I think if it seems wrong to you, then it shouldn't hurt to call the vet. I can't really imagine what it could be... other than just a bad habit, ya know? but I would call anyways... what's it hurt? IP: Logged |

I'm leaning towards the exciting vs painful option at this point as soimetimes you can see a little bit more than you wanted to see if ya know what i mean! I'll let you know what I find out =D IP: Logged |
