I have been noticing that my 1.5 year old Toy Poodle has been scratching at her bum and on the occasion kind of dragging it across the carpet... is this normal or should I take her to the vet? I see no redness on her bottom or anything. Any help is greatly appreciated! Sadie's Mommy IP: Logged |

when was the last time she had her anal glands expressed? if it has been a while than that may certainly be the problem.. your vet or a groomer can do this for you if you don't know how.. IP: Logged |

We normally clip her at home ourself, except we take her in for her ears/anal glands, I just expected them to do hers. Maybe they arn't. I am taking her in for them to do it in a few days! Thanks for the help! IP: Logged |

tell them that she needs to have her anal glands expressed.. if that doesn't help than we can conclude that there is a different problem.. IP: Logged |

That would be my guess. If you put your fingers(gloved if you prefer) right at 4 and 8 oclock around the anis. If you can feel bulges then she needs them expressed. Have the vet or groomer show you how. It is not hard at all. I never thought it was needed until I mentioned it to the vet. My poo's were very full and very thick. On the way to be impacted. Once your vet shows you, you can do it right before a bath very easily. Other than that worms could factor in. Let us know what it was. Ok. ------------------ IP: Logged |
