The past few days I've had a ton of people at my house. Teddy, my yorkie, is normally very friendly and playful, sometimes too playful. Well he tried to bite my unlce, well according to my mom he did bite him but my mom said it was very apparent that my uncle did not like the dog and even made a few comments about putting him in his cage because was barking. And Teddy does know the word cage. When it's time for me to go to work I tell him to go in his cage and he will go downstairs and get in it. I made the mistake of putting Teddy in his cage when he did something bad, instead of for sleep only or crating. Now when I tell him to go to his cage he normally thinks he's done something bad. I don't know how I can undo that, but that's another question. Anyway I witnessed Teddy trying to bite my 7 year old cousin and he even nipped at me. He never bites and now I don't know if it was the all the commotion in the house or if he is developing a problem. He's never really around many men but my boyfriend (and I think Teddy prefers my boyfriend over me. When he was a puppy I worked during the day and my boyfriend worked the late afternoon into the night so he pretty much was teddy's primary care giver then) I did notice that he didn't like my uncle or my 7 year old cousin on site. So I don't know if it's a male thing. My boyfriend says jokingly that Teddy knows that he's the only guy that's supposed to be in the house. Do you think this is ture? And should I be alarmed at his behavior towards my Uncle and my cousin or just make sure he is in his crate next time I have that much company over. I mean at one point there were about 10 people in my house all moving around, and since this is my first home my family wanted to see it so everytime someone came over it was a new tour through the house. I'm hoping it was just all the commotion and maybe he felt a little overwhelmed. IP: Logged |

Many people have problems with their dogs when company is over. Its best to put him in a safe spot while you can not watch his every move. Some kids don't know how to deal with dogs and can irritate them. And dogs do sense if they are liked.. Also, some dogs do get the feeling they own the place and can be snappy to people that don't live there. So its best to crate him or put him in your bedroom while you are visiting with guests. They do get nervous with many unknown people around. In the furure watch how he does around children. If he starts growling at any of them, tell him no. I don't let my dog near children, becuase she growls and fake bites to scare them away. She just does not trust them. Could be she was hurt by one before. But just make sure you know how your dog will act around them or don't let them near him at all. Law suits can happen. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I will surely do this, He was ok with my female cousins who range from 7-10 but he just wasn't fond of the boy. And then my Uncle. But my uncle wasn't too fond of Teddy either. IP: Logged |
