SO, once Winnie got on adult food she got tear stains. I am assuming its from the change of food. She is all white except her face!!! she looks like a raccoon!! i am going to try cornstarch on her stains. A groomer uses it as well and told me about it. i will let you know what happens!!! so it lightened up the tear stains by disguising them...not by getting rid of them. i let her outside to go potty and the cornstarch became sticky and clumpy due to the snow!!!!!! dont try this at home! IP: Logged |

There are several prducts on the market for earstains ,I would ask my vet and another groomer what the best thing to use is.Sam had the problem when small ,but as he got older it stopped . IP: Logged |

My poodle never had staining. until recently. It is either allergy or infection. I was given anti-biotics for for her. Vet also siad she could have had a problem with all the ash from all the fires. I just need to keep her body very clean and keep hair clipped away from eyes. I have even thought of cleaning carefully around that area with peroxide. It bleached my terriers hair.. I used it on a sore he had. ------------------ IP: Logged |

I can't give any advice on removing tearstains (when I was bathing at the groomers, we used a tearstain remover, but I couldn't tell you what it was called, and it didn't work too well), but someone on another board suggested cleaning the tearstain area and putting a light coating of vaseline over the area every morning to keep a dog from tearstaining. It's also possible that something in her food is causing the staining, since you said it started after you switched her food. Allergies and other things like that can cause more than normal eye/ear discharge, which could be why she's getting tear stains now. Compare the ingredients on the old food vs new, and see if you can track down any suspicious ingredients. I've also heard of tearstaining being caused by chemicals/nutrients (or something like that, maybe it was iron?, I really have NO clue) in the tap water in certain areas, and the tearstains going away when the people started using filtered water... not telling you to go out and buy bottled water or a filter for your pooch, but if you already have a filter, it can't hurt to try IP: Logged |

The tear staining may be caused by a yeast infection in the ears.. I know I did some digging on the subject and found out that all I needed to do is. Get Trick-z some Otomax 15 % from my vet and put a drop in each ear 2 times a day. and I also changed her water to bottled water. (in a doggy bowl ) they tend to dehydrate from the bottles from lack of water. and her whole face has changed dramatically. You may need to bleach with matrix la bleach if it is really bad. before I found out about the info. I used the la bleach with 40 vol. developer. for 4 minutes I applied it with a Q-tip. make sure you protect the eyes. I would not have attempted this but I am a licensed Hair stylist. and I thought it was my only resort. it worked then the stains started coming back that is when I got her the otomax for the ears and changed her water. City water contains alot of chemicals that tend to attach to the hair and looks like rust. now my baby looks great and her attitude has changed. she knows she is Beautiful. IP: Logged |
