Does anyone know about the collars that cut down on your dogs barking, it seems cruel but my Teddy is barking and barking and barking. It's really starting to work on me so I know my neighbors are slightly annoyed. Today when teddy was outside my next door neighbor came outside to politely say he was watching the game. I knew to bring Teddy in cause he was having one or his Bark Fiestas. Any advice I know barking is how dogs communicate and I'm pretty good at turning him off but he's got a nice set of lungs to be so little. Sometimes he barks so much it gives me a headache.

I wish I could help. We have a neighbor down the street that owns a cute little yorkie. Every single time we walk by she goes thru one of her barking fiestas too. Then down the block there are two others they are older and never bark. I guess it is in the temperment.

Hmm, we have had those collars, the ones that can lightly shock. We put them on our biggie dogs.(use to) They work okay, but I dont think they hurt. I'm sorry if this was not needed but I find it funny that your neighbor came out when he was watching a game because of barking. *is is just me or is there usually loud noises while watching a game anyways? like cheering. lol anyways football fans dont hate me please! But for your dog....maybe when he is outside just put some bones and toys out there for him to keep busy???

you know that is true and some days they are noisey but that Sunday they were quiet. He must have been home alone... come to think of it, it was unusually quiet and these are Eagles Fans. So "quiet" is normally not in their vocabulary. hehehehe

I am soooo mad right now. Someone lied and told my HOA that my dogs are barking all hours of the Night. Yes dogs with an "S" and not to mention Teddy barks during the Day the same time the kids are out. If he see someone mowing the lawn or kids he barks at them and even then if he barks too much I bring him indoors. I'm so mad someone lied like that. There are a lot of kids in the neighborhood and they make alot of noise so much that the sellers of the home told me the kids on the weekends can really get a little annoying, but hey it's the weekend during the day and that's when kids play. I suggested that the HOA tell whoever complained to call the police if someones dogs are barking during the night cause my dogs are in doors at night. sleeping just like I am. Occasionally light at night I do here dogs barking throught the neighborhood but it's off in the distance. So this person either flat out lied to the association or they are blaming me for someone elses dog(s)

Ok I just got off the phone with the HOA and the story is someone is lying and saying I'm leaving my dogs out at night. I called the local police to find out what they do if someone reports dogs barking left out at night. They said they go knock on the door and tell the people to bring the dog in, of course this has never happened to me cause I don't leave my dogs out at night. I'm soo mad that someone is just plain out lying. So the lady at the HOA said ok I'll note that you will bring your dogs in at night and I said again, I don't leave my dogs out at night so this person either has me confused with someone else or they are just bold face lying. I also told her that they are not the type of dogs you leave outside...

esp. at night...

I've only been in the neighborhood for 5 months and I'm new and probably the youngest homeowner on the block and I definately think there may be a little more to this than meets the eye.

You know, some people are just anal....Has nothing to do with the dogs and has everything to do something going on in their life that they can't control...But they figure they CAN do something about a neighbors barking dog.

A co-worker told me a story about a friend whose dog owner must have gotten $500.00 in tickets cuz everytime the dog gets loose he runs to the park and plays alone....instead of the neighbor simply telling the owner their dog is loose...they sit and look out the window and call the police who then right tickets....

Could be somebody who has insomnia and blames every little noise they hear to be the reason they can't sleep...

I say just make sure the dogs are in at night and not worry about it....To heck with the person whose calling you in....probably somebody who smiles in your face everyday.

My dog teddy also had a problem with barking, but all it took to quite him was a simple dog wistle. You can pick one up at Petco for less than $5. If that doesn't work they have more advance ones there too for a higher price. Hope this helps!

Thanks Lexy and Diamond. And I think I have an idea of who the sneaky peson is and yes it's someone that smiles in my face each day. When I first moved in she talked about everyone and I do mean everyone on the whole block and told me everyone's personal business. A few times I had to cut her off and tell her I really had to get inside and do some work. I do think she has something to do with it, yesterday her husband made it a point to ask me twice "so how are things going" even after I smiled and said fine and just continued to talk about my job. And the two times he made the statement he looked directly at Teddy.( I was in my back yard and we were talking over a three foot fence) Plus she hates my dog you can see it she tries to play it off but you can tell someone that's not fond of animals. My mother has even caught her glaring at him a few times when she's out in the yard with Teddy or LOL she could be glaring at my mom who knows. But I'm just going to keep a very close watch out for my dogs I don't want anyone to hurt them. Now I'm afraid to let them out in the afternoon. This woman has a definate mean strike you can see it in her eyes. So I'm sure this is just the beginning.

Electronic shock collars should be some what of a last resort. Your dog ends up not knowing why he or she had just got zapped and becomes scared.
Most Toy dogs dont like water all that much, try a squirt bottle with a "jet" spray. Evvery time s/he barks the give them a squirt and say "No, Quiet!" in a firm voice. If they like water then try a Coke-a-Cola can with a few pennies in it. DO NOT SHAKE THIS DIRECTLY IN A SMALL DOGS FACE! shake it by your side(when using it on a small dog) whinding up and shaking it at thier face will cause them to become headshy. After a shake re-enforce it by using a verbal correction. When their quiet PRAISE THEM!
hope this works.
