I have heard alot about Thornit Powder. I am considering purchasing it but was wondering if anyone uses it. My toy poodle scratches her ears and is losing fur in that spot, she also shakes her head alot. And has started biting her front legs. I have only been able to find it on websites in the UK. Here is a site I was thinking of purchasing from http://www.championpets.freeserve.co.uk/ears.htm IP: Logged |

I have taken her to the vet and have been told that she DOESNT have mites. Does anyone think this is a good product to try? IP: Logged |

I believe I posted about this. I have been using this powder on Sasha for about two months now. She used to get brown wax in her ears. I would clean them about twice a week and it was there every time. Now I just put enough in to lightly dust the inside of her ear. I put the powder on the end of a thin popcycle stick, put it up to her ear and blow it into her ear. It spread nicley that way instead of just dropping it into one spot. I really like this product. She tends to get infections so hopefully this will keep her ears in tip top condition. I learned about it from a gal that has two standard poos and has had great results. You read what it does right. I still want to email them and ask where did the wax go. I wonder if wax just forms to wash away the bad bacteria in the ears. I am going to email them My poodle has just been diagnosed with terribel degenerative arthritis by the way. Nothing to do with thornit powder. I was just telling my sisiter about the powder last night. I ordered from the same place too. IP: Logged |

I had emailed the lady and she says she uses it when she plucks the hair. But I like to put a small amount in about once a week, but she said you can just do it if you start to see brown wax. I figure why wait until you see it. I still can't beleive ther is no wax in her ears. It will come with a read out of what to do though. it also says that you can lightly dust your dogs feet if itchy. Dogs can get mites from itching their ears on their paws. Remember it is important not to put too much powder in the ears. Just enough to lightly dust the inside. Try using a make up brush, like a small blush brush. They seem to distribute the powder evenly instead of putting it on with fingers and it just laying one spot then having to rub it around. If you dip the brush in the powder, just the tip and then turn the brush upside down and tap it on the table it works best then lightly dust the feet. IP: Logged |

So do you use the powder after a bath. I'm getting Angels's stiches out today and I really want to bathe her. Is it better to use the powder after a bath? IP: Logged |

Yes, after she's bathed and completely drie. Its good to use a dog ear wash before hand. I do this only about once a month, it rids the ear of powder that has been in their ears so it doesn't accumalate. Then lightly dust the inner ear with the powder. The powder makes the hair easier to pluck too. Let me know how you like it. You should notice a difference within a week. IP: Logged |

So should I put the powder on before or after I clip her? IP: Logged |

I would put it on after bath and clipping. Do the ear wash maybe twice a month but once a week I put in the powder, massage it for a bit and if ear hair needs pulling do it after putting in the powder to get a better grip. IP: Logged |

I noticed her ears smell worse after I put the powder in. Does that happen to you? IP: Logged |

The powder has a smell to it but I don't find it bad. Give it a few days. You probably have. I have been very busy in the past few days and this is the first chance I had to get on the computer. Tell me how its going. IP: Logged |

Thats great, remember young dogs take time to get used to grooming. So just be patient. My poodle was already 4 when I got her. So the issue with her was her biting me if she was not comfortable. I nicked her a few times and boy would i be jumping fast. When she bit she did it with a vengence. She is such a good girl now. Remember to clean out the ears once or twice a month with the liquid ear cleaner so the powder does not end up accumalating. I am very happy with the product. Is she starting to have less ear wax? I can't wait to see how the grooming is coming along. The first time i groomed Sasha I did everything and the one thing that I see I did wrong in that picture was I trimmed her leg fur too high up from the paw. I gave her what looked like high waters. But now I could say she was just wearing capri fur pants. IP: Logged |

Wow! Her feet came out great. I did a very good job I must say. She was such a good girl. I need to go get toe nail clippers. What kind should I get? I would take pictures but I kicked my ex out and he took the digital camera and the computer. I can only use the computer at work now. IP: Logged |

I would buy a Roto-Matic or a mini dremel. With these you never cut the quick. I had posted a while back about dremeling your dogs nails. Take a look back on the other pages for that post. My Roto matic was just $20 . It holds about 2 or 3 nail trimmings worth of time. Cordless also. They had sold them on t.v. also. You are going to have an easy time with your girl if she was good the first time. IP: Logged |
