I'm thinking about getting a Shih-Poo. The thing is my family and I want a really quiet, calm dog, and I hear that poodles are really quite yappy. When it's crossed with a shih-tzu is it calmer? Does anyone that has one know? Is it more how you TRAIN the dog (eg. not to bark) than it's breed? What is the Shih-Poo's personality like? I would really appreciate it! IP: Logged |

I don't know from whom you heard poodles were yappy. They are not. My aunt has one. She is so sweet, and calm. She loves to just sit in your lap. In my opinion shih-tzus are louder than poodles. But, as far as both, I'm not sure. IP: Logged |

My poodle is verrrrry calm. She will bark at the same time any other dog would bark. If someunknon dog is passing the house or if someone comes to the door. sometimes I wish she would be more active. I have asked this question on another poodle forum that I go to and the answer was that a poodle can be quiet of hyper its a 50-50 chance. It has to do also if you breed two well bred poo's with very good temperments also. If you breed just any poodle together there is more chance of getting the bad traits of each of them. So if you breed for temperment you get good temperments. You know what I mean. Also it helps for you to go and pick out your pup too. That way you can ask the breeder which one they think is best suited for you. Not just impulse buys just becasue its cute. They all are. They will know which one is the calm one, the playful one, or more fiesty or loves to always investigate. Thats the best way I think. So not all poodles are feisty. And I think the same thing goes for any other breed. IP: Logged |

I have a six month old shih poo female named Winnie. She is great! She loves to play, loves to snuggle and loves to love. She loves big dogs and tries to play whenever she can. Shih Poos are not yippy dogs. Whenever she hears another dog barking, she will bark. She comes to work with me and the kids love it. I am a speech therapist and sometimes we work on social skills. It is great to have her around for these type of activities. I recommend getting one!!! I have a great breeder in southern tier ny!!! IP: Logged |

I have a 6 month old Schnoodle....hardly ever barks at all.....even when she's bouncy and playing with other dogs.....at first I was concerned...but now I enjoy it. I had a Cockapoo that would bark at a leaf falling...drove me nuts, she was like that until 10 or 11 yrs old (think that's when she started to lose her hearing...lol) IP: Logged |
