This is the second time Ive noticed a very bad smell coming from around my kittens butt and tail area. Like she went to the bathroom but didnt wipe good. Or clean herself good. Is there anything, I can do... or why is this happening, i thought they clean themselves very good. I love her to death dont get me wrong. But sanitary issues bug me... i mean shes all over my bed and my kids beds and blankets. Any suggestion. Thanks Christy IP: Logged |

I don't know how to explain it so I've enclosed an link....the other possibility is just your kitten is still young enough to "expect and inspection" I saved a kitten from a collector once and she was only 6 weeks old when I brought her home (kitten not the collector) and whenever Sessy went potty she'd back up so we could "inspect". Since Mom cat usually keeps their backside clean after the go I figured Sessy was looking for one of us to keep her clean...LOL...fortunately she usually did this to my hubby who you can imagine was just so greatly impressed Check out this link on anal glands cause that is a possibility IP: Logged |

I agree with MaryNH...I had the same problem with my cat and she smelled for a couple months...i took her to the vet yesterday for something else and that and they said her anal glands were full. It smelled really bad...I know dogs have this problem to I just never thought about a cat having the same problem. I can tell you what my friend who works at the vet told me as to why this happens but it is kind of gross. Anyways it happens cause when a dog or cat poops usually liquid stuff comesout at the end which you never really see...most cats this is what happens, but sometimes not all the stuff comes out and it accumalates in the anal glands and they need to be expressed. Sometimes dogs will try to do it themselves and if it gets on your clothes or on anything else it smells really bad for a while Now I could be wrong but this is what I have been told. Im sure if you look at MaryNH's link it would probley be more helpful. IP: Logged |
