I have a 16 month old persian who is losing his hair around his neck. So far he hasn't tested positive for RW but 10 days left to culture. He's not eating good and acts like he doesn't feel good. Could the problem be my new 3 month old cat that we got 11/03? He seems to be the domineering one and I think has been guarding the food and water and now it seems the persian is hesitant to eat or drink. They generally play together on a daily basis though. Also switched persian from science diet kitten to science diet adult,I've heard of problems with that. My persian is extremely sensitive, could it be the hair loss is psychological/emotional? The vet says could test for bacterial infection but that it's rare. We live in UT so we're not supposed to have fleas. Any ideas? IP: Logged |

Hello. Welcome to the site. Did the vet actually examine his fur loss? If so did they offer any other possible reasons for it other than a possible bacterial infection? IP: Logged |

Yes, the vet saw him 11 days ago and put him under the black light to check for ringworm but nothing showed up. He then pulled some hairs from the area where he's losing his hair and put them in a jar with something to culture it to see if it is ringworm but the culture hasn't shown anything so far. The vet says he really doesn't know what it could be if it's not RW that is why he thinks next we should test for a bacterial infection, although he says that is very rare in cats. Thank you for your concern. IP: Logged |

Hello. Did you mention to your vet that your kitty was not eating and did not feel well? Did your vet do any blood work/urine work? It sounds like your kitty is sick. Have you tried giving him some food in a seperate room from the other kitty to see if he is more willing to eat if he's alone? IP: Logged |

Yes, I informed the Vet and no he did not do any blood or urine work. Today I did get the Vet to give me a RX of antifungal and antibacterial shampoo to see if that will help. I have also tried to offer Phoenix his own bowl of food and water in my bathroom (Yuni eats in the laundry room)and have left him alone to eat but he still is not eating much, although today he seems to show a slight improvement. I will suggest my Vet take his blood and urine to see if that shows anything. Thank you for your help. IP: Logged |
