Hello:
My persian cat Abigail keeps hacking up hair/fur balls.
I have tried brushing her more frequently, and changing her diet. I also always keep a water dish out.
So far, the only food she can tolerate without hacking up quite large size hair balls is IAMS. I don't buy this food for my other cats I use ProPlan. But she seems to not be able to digest this nor many other types of food.
Any ideas on decreasing the hair ball population would be greatly appreciated.

Hello. Handsome used to have hairballs as well. All, I do is brush him every single day. I know you mentioned you did this a little bit, but if you stick with it and do it daily, it should help a lot. I didn't want to switch foods, because I really liked the food he was/is on (Wellness Cat Food). However, there are hairball foods out there that perhaps another member can recommend.

Authority hairball formula is pretty good. Have you tried using pertromalt or another over the counter remedy? Maybe that will help?

There is a great paste you can feed your cat called Lubricane (sp??). Its a thick dark paste you put it on one of their paws (about a dime size) on the top side, and they will naturally lick it off, this will help them hack up the hairballs, and you only have to use it like once every 3-4 weeks. I used it on Flea bag and Annibell and both didn't have any problems after that.

Thanks for the information.
I never thought to buy the lubricant that cats can lick off their paws.
I am also going to start brushing her more frequently.
I am going to go to PetSmart and purchase a tube today!

I have used Wellness dog food actually this past winter. A friend of mine at work buys it for her cats and dogs and bought me 2 cases of it for a Christmas present One for my cats and one for my dogs!
She lives near a pet deli that sells the food.
My cats and dogs loved it. However, when I tried to purchase it, I found it is extremely hard to buy. The local stores i.e. PetSmart, Petco do not carry it. I would have had to make a long trip in order to keep purchasing the food.
So, I decided to stick with what was easy to obtain for me at our local stores.
Where do you buy it?

Hello. The great thing about local pet supply stores are that they will order whatever pet food you want. I'm not too sure if big companies like Petsmart will (you could ask), but if you have a small local pet supply shop they would. They won't charge you for shipping. You'll just pay the suggested retail price. Good luck. It's great food.
