I have a three year old female cat that is the love of my life. However, she has started to pee on our couch! I took her to the vet and she doesn’t have any medical conditions, and there hasn’t been any change in the cleanliness of her box. We do have a dog that chases her a lot but this didn’t start until 2 years after we got the dog. She only chooses the couch and has been pretty sporadic with it. She had done it in the past and then went 6 months without a problem and now all the sudden it’s a regular thing. I’m going crazy because my roommates are pushing me to get rid of her. Any suggestions would be great!

Hello. Welcome to the site. If you're %100 positive it's the cat that is urinating on the couch and %100 postive that she doesn't have a UTI (urinary tract infection) or other medical problem, then it's most likely behavioral.

Your cat may be feeling stressed for whatever reason. The first thing you have to do is get rid of the urine smell on the couch. Members here say Nature's Miracle works very well to remove the smell. If the smell is left on the couch the cat will often return to urinate there.

Then you can try a product called Feliway (again members here say it works well). It may help your kitty calm down and not feel the need to urinate on the couch.

Ideally, you should get to the root of her stress/behavioral issue. Such as one of your roomates stressing her out (not being nice to her) or possibly another person who comes and goes in your home. Even cats/dogs or other animals that are outside can cause her stress. Is there anything you can think of that may be causing her to feel stressed?

If you're in a sticky situation with your roomates wanting you to get rid of her, you may want to keep her in your bedroom with her food/water and litter box until they (your roomates) calm down a bit and the situation can be resolved where everyone is happy.

I think you might find this site helpful: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Pointe/9352/litterboxhelp.html

Your cat is a bit older now and maybe feeling more threatened by the dog than she used to. It sounds to me like she is maybe marking the couch as "hers".
I would probably give the Feliway spray a try.

maybe you've not cleaned the scent off the couch enough, hence now she goes back after following the scent, as well as habit.

my cat has done a dudu on the bed once, and it was behavioural. she was extremely stressed from the move. she did it again after we moved once more.

i cleaned the bed properly, but more importantly, i put on some cat urine eliminator liquid... i can't quite remember the name, but it's supposed to make traces of cat urine undetectable to the human nose disappear.

another tip i might add..... cat urine glows in the dark, especially under UV light. so if you want to know if you "got it all off", turn off the lights.
