Couple of weeks ago, we found a stray kitten at our garden and we took him in. Everything went well until yesterday I took him to the clinic because he has mites. After 3 hours from the medication that doctor gave my little kitten, I found him hyper active and his body shiver a lot. Next thing I found him dead. Can anyone tell me what happen to my kitten? What kind of medicine did the Dr. give the kitten? If it was earmites he may have given ivermectin which can cause a reaction if the cat is sensitive to it or if too much is given. Usually this condition is seen in dogs, but I think it can happen in cats. IP: Logged |

I am not sure. I asked him about it but the Dr. said that the medicine he gave my kitten should not have such an affect. 3 hours after the medication, my kitten was hyperactive and shiver a lot. An hour later we realize that the kitten was lethargic and limpy. IP: Logged |

I'm sorry for your loss. Did you by any chance keep the medication? You may want to have it tested. I have heard of people giving the wrong meds/dosage (by accident) to both animals and humans. There is always the possibility that this happened. [This message has been edited by Chessmind (edited 02-16-2004).] IP: Logged |

why else would the kitten become so gravely ill and die ?? could your kitten have eaten something after it got home ? ... I would keep pressuring the vet and get some answers.. I am sorry for your loss, and so suddenly.... I feel angry and sad for you at the same time IP: Logged |

Did your kitten ingest the medication? It may be safe to be applied on the skin, but not so for oral ingestion. It does sound like she got poisoned. I'm very sorry for your loss. ///ej ------------------ IP: Logged |

I want to thank each and everyone of you for all the messages and also the advise on what happen and to do. Unfortunately I did not have the medication that the doctor gave my kitten. He gave him him some liquid form medication and some creamy medication to apply on the affected areas. That all. I have checked the medication and there is no name at all. Once again, thank you very much for your advice and kind words. I really miss my kitten a lot. IP: Logged |
