My cat has gone in to heat. She is driving me crazy and annoying the neighbors. There are many tom cats in the neighborhood and they are constantly calling out to her. I am half tempted to let her go outside, I have not had a goodnites sleep in 3 days. I live in a loft space so I can not even seclude her in another room, the loft is the only room. Now I know this may sound cruel, but does anyone know of a way to make her quiet. Is there any over the counter meds that might make her sleep through the crying fits. Anything. She is getting fixed after this heat. IP: Logged |

I would not let her go outside, she will have tom cats fighting over her and will come back pregnant. She should be almost through, most cats are only in heat 3-5 days. Go ahead and make the appointment now for next week. My kitty was in heat so I made her an appointment to get fixed a week after she went into heat. She had only been out of heat a few days, but the vet said she was getting ready to go back in to heat again! Also, some vets will spay them while they are in heat, but they sometimes charge a little bit more. IP: Logged |

Hi, you can take your kitty to the vets and they will usu wat looks like a swab and insert it a little into her vulva this stimulates as if she was mated and helps bring her out of her heat quicker. Or you can wait the 6dyas she is in heat and take her to be spayed. Your kitty will be alot happier and healthier after the operation. mike. IP: Logged |

hi! you might wanna get her fixed soon, because i just read that cats go into heat quite often...almost every 2 weeks!so thats really gonna cut the amount of sleep you get if you dont get her fixed! IP: Logged |

my girls start calling every 10 days for 7 days at the height of mating season, so I know how awful that noise can be and how baggy eyed you can be the next day. Its enough to drive you nuts ! I sometimes do as charmedagain suggested, what we call 'feathering' to get them out of season but it is not 100% effective, and I wouldnt suggest it to someone who is not interested in breeding anyway. You can ask your vet if they will spay your cat in mid-season ( it is more expensive and tricky) or if you can hang out a little longer, get her spayed IMMEDIATELY after she finishes calling. With one of my queens , who has the most DREADFUL screatching howl, I have to admit I give her a mild sedative late at night, just so we, and the poor neighbours, can get some sleep. It is called ACP and it lasts for 8 hours. It is mostly used for travel sickness but also as a calming sedative. It works a treat. But DONT think this is a cure, your cat certainly needs to be spayed . Please dont let her outside, !! we had a poor kitty come in to the hospital once , unable to walk, beaten black and blue, as she had been GANG RAPED by a group of toms. It was terrible ! She had to stay with us several days and she was in immense pain. IP: Logged |
