You can give him nutrical. It is a vitamin paste with a lot of fat and calories. Most cats will lick it off your finger, but if he wont you can put it on the roof of his mouth and he will eat it that way. That will give him nutrients without being as traumatic as force feeding. You can get it from the vets or at a pet store. IP: Logged |

Hello. Assuming he's okay (other than his pelvis being broken) he may not be eating because he is depressed being in a cage. I wouldn't leave my cat in a cage for 4-8 weeks. Your kitty can still move around in his cage, so I don't understand how keeping him in there will help his pelvis heal. IP: Logged |

thank u 4 the advice i have the nutrical just in case anyways and i have gave it to him but i just wanted him to eat food just in case u know? anyways about the whole cage thing the reason it is differnt from him being in a cage rather then running around is b/c if hes in a cage then he cant jump around and run etc.. in the cage he can move but not that much soo but thank u 4 ur concern.. but 4 the record he started eating today finally on his own and acting normal again (other then not being able to walk) he still has some blood in his urine but they said that it isnt a concern since they took x-rays ultra-sounds etc.. and everything is fine there it was just a little blood when they empied his bladder b4 and now there is barely any blood at all so it looks like hes gonna pull though after all.... chessmind - cage rest is VERY important with pelivc injuries. Although they can move, it is not enough to cause more damage. Imagine if he tried to climb down stairs ? or jump onto the bed ? The little movement he has in the cage is to prevent bed sores, but not more than that. Those bones need to heal. Fractured pelvis can cause several problems with urinating and defacating. I would guess this is the problem with the cat. If it has not passed a stool this whole time, its because it is so bruised it is painful to push it out. The stool sits there and gets hard and he becomes constipated= He refuses to eat. FMGurl, I would suggest you call your vet immediately and discuss your kitties progress over the phone. He may need to come in for another check up, make sure those fractured pelvis bones have not moved and punctured the colon causing infection. When it comes to force feeding, feed a really high quality food for invalid pets, one such diet is called Hills Science Diet A/D, it is a tin that is a paste and can be past through a syringe easily when watered down a little. With this, mix in some NUTRIGEL or similar product, like mentioned earlier. Keep us informed. IP: Logged |

Hello. When reading the post it was mentioned that the vet said the pelvis fracture was not serious. So, I was thinking a little fracture, nothing serious that won't heal on it's own. That's why I didn't understand why the poor kitty had to be in the cage for 4-8 weeks. However, stairs and possibly jumping up onto a bed is a very good point. I really hope your kitty feels better soon. Poor little guy. Do you have any pics of him to post here? IP: Logged |

Hello. Thank you for the update. I really hope he is on the road to recovery. He seems like he's a trooper. Not to mention he has someone who loves him to take care of him. When you get a chance to take some pics, please do so. Keep us posted on how he's doing. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. IP: Logged |
