hello, does anyone know if the egyptians really pierced their cats ears and noses, like depicted in their statues of their goddess Bastet ? have any mummified cats been found with peircings ? would a cat tolerate jewellery like necklaces ? they wear collars dont they ? I read this article on the net, about a man who pierced his cats ear with a fake diamond stud. he was prosectuted by the rspca. http://www.dispatch.co.za/1999/12/24/foreign/CAT.HTM I've always thought cats could look more beautiful with jewellery, like in this photo of my lovely girl all dressed up, (the earring is a clip on). I would agree a ring would be dangerous as it could get caught, or even ripped out by another cat in a scuffle... The guy that got prosecuted...well thats just rediculous. Hasnt the spca heard of things such as tail docking ear cropping or duclaw removal? Piercing a cats ears is no different than parents who pierce their childrens ears at an early age and no different from circumcision. If it ever became popular...i can see that as a possibility in the future...i would think they would make a safety earring that would snap off if ever tugged on... Anyways...I dont see it as horrible at all. A person has a right to have their animals however they would like to have them as long as its done humanely. Thats just my opinion....there will be just as many opposers to this as there are to any other alteration procedure. IP: Logged |

Your cat looks very beautiful with her jewelry on I am opposed to putting animals through any type of unnecessary pain so I can't say I would agree with cat peircings but the clip-ons probably look just as nice if the cat does'nt mind wearing them. I don't even wear jewelry so I guess I wouldn't make my cat. Most of the Egyptian cat pictures I have seen do not have jewelry on. Some of their statues and burial masks showed things in their ideal or perfected form, so that could be an example of the cat statue you saw. They did worship cats as gods and it was a crime punishable by death to kill a cat. IP: Logged |

Your cat looks so cute, I'd stick to clip on earrings myself. though I don't think I'd put jewelry on my cats. They'd kill me. I'd worry about them getting caught and choked by a necklace if it was a little too long. Jenny IP: Logged |

mistresskela, a child's ear and a cat's ear are different. cats are not like children, children do not have to worry about fighting for territory or asserting dominance. children do not have to worry about running away safely from bigger cats, children do not have to worry about having their earrings caught in something and hurting them in the process, they have voices to express themselves to anyone who walks by. the structure of a cat's ear and a human ear is also different. cats' ears are rich with sensors of sorts, they rely on them heavily for hunting and moving. human ears are cartilege and can take piercings. the weight of an ear ring is just about right for a child's ear, but the same earring will weigh a cat's thin ear down heavilly. children do not scratch their ears with their hind legs like cats do. a hole for an earring will wound or never heal to start with, since cats are accustomed to such behaivour. as for declawing, it is illegal in many countries such as the UK. hence the fact that it is allowed in other places does not distinguish the fact that it is cruel and painful to the cats. i love my kitties as they are. i affixed a collar with a small tag for them, just in case they go missing. but i would not cosmetically alter my kitties for my personall pleasure. ///ej IP: Logged |

You have such a beautiful cat. Is she a Blue Russian? I wouldn't pierce my cat's ears for a variety of reasons, but if your cat doesn't mind the clip-ons you may just want to stick with that. IP: Logged |

I don't know what the egyptians did. But, I don't see a problem with your cat (who's beautiful!) wearing the jewlrey. I draw the line when it would cause pain. I see no point in hurting my cats so they can sport a fancy earring. (That's not a knock on the clip-on you used. Obviously, your cat didn't mind that.) Rather than be redundant, I'll say that I think empressjulz said it well. IP: Logged |

I've never had a child....but children are not nearly as quiet and well behaved as you seem to make them out to be. I'm not talking about a 5 year old either...im talking about younger kids. A cats ear is also made out of cartilage...and obviously you wouldnt put a huge hoop earring in.... My cats ears aren't pierced and I'm not talking about piercing them. It was done in the past and I'm simply trying to explain that it would be just as feasible as other procedures done without the animal/person/childs consent. A dogs ears for example....things like a cone collar and tape will stop the dog from bothering the wound until it is healed. The same type thing could be done to a cat and it would be entirely feasible with the proper equipment. IP: Logged |
