I have always wondered what it means when a cat kneeds its paws on a human. I know its a sign of affection but is there a specific trigger or purpose? My cats have been doing this on a regular bases and it finally ends up with them curling up on my lap. IP: Logged |

I think it stems back to when they nursed as kittens. They would push on their mommies tummies as they suckeled for milk. So I guess it's a comfort thing, like when something takes you back to your childhood. IP: Logged |

Hehehe I thought as much, its funny that both cats do it the same way and the behavior results in a warm place for them to rest. IP: Logged |

I always thought it was a sign of affection. That they showed this to their mothers as a way to "milk" their mommas. Tom does this to Granvel. I think it makes the cats feel more comfy in their surounding environment. I do know one thing...Annibelle used to do it to me when I was in bed. Made for a wonderful back massage!!! I think of it like a little kid sucking their thumb. It's mainly a comfort thing. IP: Logged |
