My 17yr old domestic short hair cat has been loosing weight at a slow pace over the past year. She eats but does not clean her dish like she did when younger. She will ask for food 10 min after feeding and if I give her a new flavor can in her dish will eat some of it. She will eat people food (chicken/turkey) but in small quantities. The vet said that normal weight is 10-12lbs. She is just under 10 lbs. only indoors. Her litter box visits are normal. But her time schedule has changed where she wakes me at 3am almost daily to eat. Is this an ageing thing or senility or close to her time left with me? Thanks!! Rm IP: Logged |

I'd take her to the vet and have a complete blood panel done. When my pets all hit about 9 years of age I do this...caught liver disease in my dog early this way. Sometimes extreme weight loss is cats can be thyroid disease. Hope all goes well IP: Logged |

I would talk to your vet but I had a cat who lived to be 20 and he lost a lot of weight during the last years of his life. He was always hungry. Nothing was really medically wrong with him, he was just old. IP: Logged |
