Thanks for posting it for me, Sam. Also, thank you for boycotting them. On the PETA website they give us the e-mail address of Procter and Gamble, for us to voice our opinions on what they are doing and to mention that until they stop abusing animals you are boycotting their products. Every sent e-mail does make a difference. IP: Logged |

I just found out that one of my dogs toys was sponcered by the IAMS company. I will never buy it for them again. But I can't take it away either, he's had it since he was a pup, and he wouldn't understand....am I wrong for that?? Should I take it away and toss it??? IP: Logged |

If you already have the toy and your dog likes it--no--I wouldn't throw it away. If you just bought it or something like that and could return it, then sure, but since that's not so, let the dog enjoy himself. IP: Logged |

Hi, I would never use iams and i would not recommend it to anyone i fed one of my bitches on it when she was pregnant as i was told that it would help her as she was forever throwing up and this made matters worse i soon found out from the vet that there was a high level of toxin in her body lucky for me she made a recovery and her and pups were fine. I complained to the company and they replied saying that there was no proof that it was down to there foods yet my dog only threw up when pregnant and she got these toxins after 3days of eating the stuff. never again would i touch it i stick with pedigree chum or winalot. After reading the stuff on the link in the thread i am so glad i no longer use it how could anyone every treat an animal they way they do me personally think the people that hurt animals or children should be shot but thats my view mike IP: Logged |

Thank you for posting this information about Iams. We recently took in a irish setter/lab mix who was on Iams when we got him. I am in the middle of switching him over to another dog food. I cannot stop crying over that little kitten being washed down the drain. I know it probably happens with other pet foods, or has in the past, but this really got to me. I will definetly be emailing and boycotting Iams and all Procter and Gamble products. This is so sick!!! IP: Logged |

Here is a link to a page I found about pet food. Food pets Die For. Here is a quote: "As discussed in Chapter Two, companion animals from clinics, pounds, and shelters can and are being rendered and used as sources of protein in pet food." I personally regularly cook my pets people food. I never felt it was natural for my pets to eat that stuff in pet food bags. I do feed them pet food, but I also give them table scraps and even cook meat for the critters themselves. [This message has been edited by Richard (edited 01-06-2004).] IP: Logged |

Between the mad cow scare and reading the link Richard posted, I'm almost thinking about cooking Handsome his own food. The vegetarian cooking meat meals for the cat. Lol! Jeez, what is the world coming to? IP: Logged |

I understand your concern about the mad cow scare and this thread about Iams and how they do business, presuming that P.E.T.A has no ax to grind. I am NOT saying that what they found was untrue, it probably is true. I just don't know if they might have a different agenda. Isn't one of P.E.T.A's beliefs is that no animal (including domestic cats) should be pets? But anyway, back to my concern on the thread. I don't know if anyone has seen the episode on Animal Precinct where the police came to the lady's home that had probably 80-100 cats she was taking care of. She meant well, but all she fed them was a vegetarian diet. I don't know what that included, but the episode implied that the cats were going blind because they were fed a vegetarian diet. It is my opinion (and keep in mind, it's *my* opinion) that cats were made to eat some type of meat. Look at their teeth. Have you noticed that almost all (I can't think of any that don't) carnivores have fangs? Notice the vegetarian animals, rabbits, cows, horses, I'm sure many others, don't have fangs to tear open meat. It's just something I've noticed. I posted a message before about Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's soul. I am NOT a vendor or retailer for the food, but my cats love it and it has a lot of terrific ingredients. You should check it out, or if you do want to cook your pet people food, at least cook them some kind of meat. It doesn't have to be beef, how about turkey or chicken or even fish? I'm just really concerned about the episode about the cats going blind. It really bothered me. IP: Logged |

I also feed my kitties Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul and they LOVE it! I switched from Iams after I read all the bad things about them. And besides, Chicken Soup's ingredients seem better. I also give them cooked chicken or fish on occassion which they go nuts for. catwoman: IP: Logged |

CATWOMAN: I'm not sure if your post was for me, but if you re-read my post I did not say I was going to make Handsome vegetarian food.

I was feeding my cats Iams and I am fairly certain that one of them has developed an allergy to it. I have written Iams customer service and will never again use their products. Thanks for letting us know what the scoop was! Without this kind of information, it's difficult to improve our lives and the lives of other people and pets. IP: Logged |

Oooops! I am so sorry Chessman. I guess I saw the word vegetarian and cooking for your cat and didn't read what you wrote correctly. I got it now, *you* the vegetarian, cooking meat for the cat (LOL). Well, again I apologize thinking you were just cooking vegetables for your cat. No hard feelings? Just was concerned for Handsome is all :-) IP: Logged |

CATWOMAN. No problem. I can see how it could easily be misread. Here is a picture of Handsome. You'll see how healthy and happy he is with his meat diet. Lol http://www.PictureTrail.com/chessmind IP: Logged |

Just a point that proctor and gamle are also a medical and pharmacutical company, not that this makes any difference to my opinion on vivisection. I woud never buy from them as a rule but as they are ne of the biggest companies in the UK it makes life a bit diffcult. I hate the way multinational companies exploit both people and animals! CATWOMAN: Thank you. I think he's good looking too. Lol. To answer your other post: quote: No, that is not where they stand on this issue. Basically, they are against people that do not spay/neuter their animals, people that abuse/neglect animals and people that dump their animals off in shelters. If you are interested in where they really stand on this issue, here it is. http://www.peta.org/about/faq-comp.asp IP: Logged |
