Hello all, we are new to this forum. Our question is, our cat is in healthy shape, but on certain occasions, we can hear her gasping for air. It's so sad, but she always swallows her hairballs. It's almost like she's going to vomit, but then she swallows it all back up. Is this normal, and what do you think we should do? IP: Logged |

Welcome to the site. Some of the other members on this site may be a bit more helpful in the hairball department. However, you can start by brushing your kitty daily, to help clean up some of the loose hairs, as well as perhaps getting her on a hairball remedy diet (ask your vet or local pet shop). IP: Logged |

Welcome. Does your cat ever get the hairball up? I never had too many problems with hairballs. But, my cats will do that noise you're talking about and choke the hairball back down. Then, maybe a couple of days later, I'll find a hairball sitting in the basement. They usually get it up... but for my cats, it sometimes takes time. Maybe someone else here will have a little more information for you to help with your specific question. IP: Logged |

Thank you both for your input. Chessmind- Good info, I will brush her today. Lucidity03- sometimes she will let the hairball out. I have only seen about 2 or 3 hairballs, maybe she hides them?? IP: Logged |

One of my cats does that. She never really coughs up anything, but she heaves a lot like she is going to. I would suggest feeding your cat a hairball formula food or maybe a sensitive stomach food. IP: Logged |
