Hi, I'm a foster mom for Humane Society in a small town where they still prescribe dip for ringworm in young kittens. Used Program once for older cats, but their liver enzymes shot WAY up and I got a scolding from my regular vet. Dip is antiquated, and Program does not seem to be usable for 4-9 wk olds. Suggestions, pretty please. Julie IP: Logged |

I am a big fan of Program for ringworm treatment. I have never had any problems. I think Program can be used at a younger age than other products. I think it can be used around 4-6 weeks but I'm not sure. I have never had to deal with ringworm in little kittens. I do know that it will eventually control itself, but it could get way out of hand before that happens. If the sores are in places that the kitten can lick you could use a topical anti-fungal like micatin. Check with the vet to see which one you can use on cats. IP: Logged |

Unfortunately I am going through this with my new cat (poor baby has ear mites, ring worm, and tapeworms). My vet told me to get Lamisil over the counter and rub it over the infected and surrounding areas. IP: Logged |

Here's my 2cents worth on ringworm. I brought a kitten home not knowing she had ringworm. She had a small scab, even asked the vet to look, but he didn't think it was anything so I didn't do anything until it became obvious it was ringworm. Naturally ALL my cats got ringworm...sigh. Did the ointment/cream treatment which really didn't do much, then read about Program. Gave the kitten about 1/4 the dosage suggested (didn't have more) and the NEXT day I could tell she was improving. Before the Program, she would have a new sore crop up everyday. I gave her Program, she hasn't had another sore since. I give all my cat's program every month now, and will for awhile yet(it's been for about 4 months now), because even tho they have not had any signs of ringworm since Program....I HAVE!!! I just found a spot on me last week!!! I don't know if this house will ever be ringworm-free again. Anyway, I am a believer in Program as a treatment for ringworm. I don't think it cures it, but it stops the scabs and hairloss! I am hoping that time will cure it, at least that is what I have read anyway. Program cured it for my household. If you aren't giving them the full dosage it wont cure it, they could still be carrying the ringworm and thus passing it around and to you. Cats- give them twice the monthly dosage. Make sure they get it right after a meal or it wont work as well. Humans- Put over the counter lotrimin cream on your sores. Don't cover them up after you put the cream on- I made that mistake and they wont heal. It takes time. Ringworm was passing around my house for awhile and the above steps got rid of it. IP: Logged |
