Hello, I have been away for two days and it has snowed a big deal. I shoveled but GiGi (my kitty) doesn't like snow. She doesn't like it that much. I saw her for the first time in 3 days today (cuz ive been away, but i left her food)and she was in the neighbors yard. She wanted to come to me she was sooooo cute, but she couldn't get through the snow. I had to go pick her up. Also, im afraid she's not warm but i think she is. She has 2 coats cuz shs an outside cat, its very thick. Is this normal for her to be scared.. is it because she's cold? Also, I feed her purina cat chow.. I just pour it into the bowl 'till its almost to the top. She's not overweight, or under. Do i have to measure the amount of dry food I give her? ------------------ IP: Logged |

Hi I can't help you with the snow problem because both my cats are indoor kitties but with the food issue I maybe able to shed some light. As my cats are indoor and not very active (and in one case, a little overweight) I will measure out their food and feed them twice a day with plenty of water available. Some people may choose to free feed their cat - in other words leave the food bowl filled all the time. Some cats have the sense to feed until they are full and not gorge themslves (unlike mine) and come back later when they are hungry. As your cat is an outdoor cat and probably quite active being outside, I wouldn't worry too much about measuring out the food. She will burn energy keeping warm and will need the extra food for energy and nurishment. However, as she is eating dry kibble, make sure she has access to lots of fresh water. Hopefully someone can answer your other question! IP: Logged |

Make sure she has a warm place to get into when it is cold. You could get her a sweater or something if you think she is cold. Just let her eat as much food as she wants unless she becomes overweight. Most cats regulate their food intake very well. IP: Logged |

I think what fleafly meant was a cat sweater. Not one of your own sweaters Dakota. I only said that, because I remember you had tried to put a scarf around your kitty to keep her warm, but she didn't like it too much. You can click on this link for cat sweaters. http://shop.store.yahoo.com/tailsbythebay/clothing1.html However, the only part about your kitty having a sweater is that she may get colder if it gets wet from the snow. I think I saw some raincoats on this site, that are lined with warm furry material to help keep her warm. Or she may just not like it at all. It's very sweet of you to be thinking about your kitty's comfort. I agree with Fleafly that you should have a warm dry place for her to go to. You can use a box that she can climb in and out of when she wants and put a blanket in there for her or an old sweater for her to lay on. Are you sure your parents won't let her in the house when it's this cold outside? IP: Logged |

I think putting anything on your kitty for her to go outside in is a bad idea. She may get caught on something ( fence, brush, etc) and not be able to get free. Plus you don't want something on her that will get wet and make her even colder. Your kitty can't come inside? I think they find plenty of warm places on there own. The only warm place I worry about is a cars engine. Cats have been known to crwl in them. Jenny IP: Logged |

Thanks you guys. I appreciate it I found out she has found a warm place under my neighbor's shed. I would put a box but wont the raccoons and possums attack her if she is sleeping? I won't put a kitty coat on her because I don't want her to gt caught on somthing as i've heard this many times before.Once again ...thanks ------------------ IP: Logged |
