all of a sudden she got this big bump at the corner of her mouth. I didnt think it was a big deal at first because I think maybe my boyfriends cat hit her or something, until i actually examined it really close and notice that its a big bump. It looks like a cyst, but I dont know what it is. She also has 2 more under her chin. they feel like firm pimples. Theyre not deep in the flesh or anything, theyre right in the skin just like a pimple would be. I know its not the little bumps/allergic reaction cats can get from plastic bowls because her bowls are ceramic. does anyone know what it could be? is it serious? what should i do? IP: Logged |

It could very serious or it could just be an allergic reaction or maybe even an abcess but in any of these cases a trip to see the vet is a very good idea. Especially as it is in the mouth area and could prohibit her from eating or drinking IP: Logged |

I just found out cats can get acne, read this article and see if it sounds like what your cat has: http://pets.indiatimes.com/articleshow/213622893.cms IP: Logged |

I found an article about skin conditions that might be relevant to your cat: PAINFUL SKIN DISORDERS WITH PUS DRAINAGE - Back to Top Feline Acne: Pimple-like bumps on the underside of the chin and edges of lips. Impetigo: Pus-filled blisters on abdomen and hairless areas of newborn kittens. Cellulitis or Abscess (Pyoderma): Painful, hot, inflamed skin or pockets of pus beneath the skin. Often caused by self-mutilation. Look for underlying cause (i.e., itchy skin disorder, foreign body, puncture wound). LUMPS AND BUMP OR BENEATH THE SKIN - Back to Top Hematomas: Collections of blood beneath the skin, especially on the ears. Caused by trauma. Tender Knots (Abscesses): Frequently found after cat fights. Forms a firm swelling that becomes soft with time. Painful. Cysts: Smooth lumps beneath the skin. May grow slowly. Can discharge cheesy material and become infected. Otherwise, not painful. Mycetoma: Mass or nodule beneath skin with an open tract to the surface draining a granular material. Caused by a fungus. Sporotrichosis: Skin nodule with overlying hair loss and wet surface of pus at site of puncture wound or break in skin. Caused by a fungus. Grubs (Cuterebra): Inch-long fly larvae that form cystic-like lumps beneath the skin with hole in center to breathe. Often beneath chin or along abdomen. When a Lump May Be a Cancer: Rapid enlargement; appears hard or fixed to surrounding tissue; any lump growing from bone; a lump that starts to bleed; a mole that begins to spread or ulcerate; unexplained open sore that does not heal, especially on feet or legs. Note: The only way to tell for sure is to remove and study the lump under a microscope. Suggested Research: Common surface growths or Tumors and Cancers. IP: Logged |

No problem. I found this site before while looking for info on feline psychogenic alopecia and was looking for it again today to help halokittie. I would freak out if I found a lump on one of my cats, so its nice to know what can cause them. IP: Logged |
