Does anybody have any suggestions to what I can put in my large houseplant to stop my kitten soiling in it, he has started to use it as well as his litter tray. I tried placing scrunched up supermarket bags around the base of the plant, but caught him pulling them out and trying to climb in again. Is there a repellent I could use on the top soil? If you catch him in the act, try squirting him with a water bottle. Other than that, can you move the houseplant out of his reach? IP: Logged |

My neighbor sprays alcohol on her plants I've also heard vinegar water will keep cats away. I just gave up on having plants, my cats even ate my cactus. IP: Logged |

Unfortunatly I can't remember the name of it but I used to use this stuff that looked like green jello. It was specifically for plants to prevent cats from soiling in them. It smelled horrible but it did the trick. I did a quick search on the internet and found this... http://www.outsidepride.com/catanddog.asp I also am a big fan of the water spray bottle. The only problem with that is you have to catch them in the act in order for it to work :-) IP: Logged |

Just thought that I would give you my input... This worked for two of my cats but not one of the others. Its worth a try though. Get the heavy duty foil and crumble it up so it isn't smooth, then wrap it around the base of the plant covering the soil. "Most" cats don't like it and its not as easy to move as the plastic bags. I've removed the foil now and after about 3 months they don't even bother trying anymore. IP: Logged |

I tried the tin foil solution for a while. My cat still tried to get into the plants but eventually stopped. I also read somewhere to criss-cross tape to the rim of the pot, so it is raised up above the soil, creating a sticky net. I haven't tried it, but seems it sounds like I good idea to me. IP: Logged |
