Hi I was curious to know whether there are any legal ramifications if someone keeps your cat? I dropped off simba at my friend's place as I have to go away for possibly 6 months could be less or more. My question is if my friend for some odd reason decides not to give my simba back to me do i have any right to get him back? Just a paranoid thought that ran thru my head.

There would be nothing you could do, without proper proof that it is your cat. So if you feel something like that would happen, you could have a small contract drawn up and signed by your friend to be safe.

But honestly, if you feel your friend is that type of person, maybe you should consider leaving your cat with a friend you can trust better.

That's true but it's not even that I happened to be watching Judge Judy at the time and this lady "abandoned" her kitty and 8 months later wanted it back so the judge told her to get a new one. My case is different of course, I have to leave for a period of time and found only my friend to take care of him till I'm gone. I've bought 6 months worth of food supply as well as litter and I gave my friend all the health certs showing that Simba is registered to me. Just a paranoid person.

I watch a lot of Judge Judy, so I know the case you are talking about. If you have a pre-arranged agreement and are paying for the upkeep of the cat, it is still yours. If people have sent money for litter, food and vet bills, then the cat usually goes back to them. Also since you have a set agreement you should be okay. A lot of the Judge Judy cases, they leave the animal and say I will come back for it when I can. Six months or longer later they finally call about it.

Just make sure that you are paying for Simba's expenses and call to check on him at regular intervals.

Hehe thanks a lot. Judge Judy rocks. i love the way she has NO sympathy with ppl in the wrong and she just tells them off. yeah i keep in touch with Simba and like I said bought 6 months worth of food supply and litter. Thanks

The only other thing I would add is to keep receipts of copies of checks that you send your friend. It never hurts to be prepared. Hopefully you will never need them, but if you do you will be glad you have them.
