I just noticed today that my cat has a small growth on the pad of one paw

Its black just like the pad, just a small narrow 1/2 inch of pad material sticking out of the pad.

I dont get a chance to examine her feet too much because she hates it, so i dont know how long its been there.

It doesnt seem to hurt her, im just not sure if it was the result of an injury, or if it is just a natural variant.

Mainly im afraid its may get caught on something and tear. Any advice?

hi, sorry to bring up an an old post but my 2 yr old male cat also has one of these growths on one of his pads.
i have been searching the net for info as i am concerned it may be hurting him because he doesn't like me touching it. the growth sounds exactly like the one described here.
i will ask the vet to examine it when the cat goes for his yearly injections and examination but that is not due for a few months yet.
does anyone have any advice or experience of this?
many thanks
coz

My cat Ozzie has this too and I'm not really sure how long it's been there cause his feet are so furry I had never really noticed it, it almost looks like he has a second deformed little claw growing underneath the natural healthy one??? So weird, I was wondering if it hurt him too? So let me know what you find out if you get to the vet before me. Thanks.

you're right, it looks a bit like a claw growing on the pad underneath the proper claw. at first i thought it was a rose thorn stuck in the pad.

last night i managed to inspect the other pads and there was a little black spot on the back right paw, exactly the same place as the growth on the back left paw.
they are both on the far outer pads.
is that the same place as the growth on your cat?

my cat isn't due at the vets til 20th march for his annual examination/injections so you'll probably get there before me.
he hates going so don't want to take him there any more than whats necessary.
in fact i'm dreading the vaccination. last time he got free and ran around the vets room with the syringe still in his fur
do let me know what your vet says.

Oh my goodness......the same happened to me last time I took Ozzie....that's so funny it's like we have the same cat.....same toe problem same fit at the vet. Yeah Ozzie was freaking out so bad, well it was a new vet, 1st visit and they just came and took him out of the carrier and was like we're just gonna weigh him so i thought they would just bring him right back because anywhere else I've been they always tell you to come to be with your kitty through any procedures so they don't get too freaked, well then they took him into a room and was trying to take his temp, then I hear these horrible growling screaching noises that i didn't even realize were him and next thing I hear is all this clammering like pots and pans being knocked over and then I see him come flying out into the hallway and land on his back .......he had hurled himself out of their grasp and off the table and the assistant try to hurry up and pick him up and was looking down the hallway to see if I was looking of course I was on my way down there having an anxiety attack myself and when I stepped into the room he was flailing him self aroung while she was trying to hold and when she saw me she let go and he made a running dash into my arms and he was panting he was so worked up, I just stood there and held him and talked to him, and this little kid that was one of the assitance was all off at Ozzie and cursed and was like I'm not touching that cat again, so needless to say i put him in his carrier and left. We were both so upset. He has never been like that at the vet before, so I blame them for handling him inappropriatly. Now he runs as soon as he's sees his carrier.

cat was very relaxed tonight so i managed to take another look- i'm pretty certain it is a claw growing out of his pad- it only looks black because the positioning of it means it must get rubbed in the dirt a lot when he's outside. he can't retract the claw like the others cos its just kinda stuck there. he has another one on the opposite paw but thats a lot smaller.
so kitty has 2 extra claws to scratch me with- how nice!
i will still ask the vet because it may need to be removed.
so strange!

I'd thought the one on my cat was a claw id never noticed at first, but it gave in slightly under gentle pressure from my finger so I assume its more like callused skin.
