This past weekend, my six (seven in November) year old cat was feeling ill, she was vomiting, not eating, and looked generally sick. My mother and I took her to a vet, and she only weighed 4.5 pounds, and she’s a Persian. We also found out she has a tumor in her bowels. Fluffy (my cat) is going to be opened up at noon today to see if it is a tumor, and if the cancer has spread. To prevent her from going through pain, we will put her to sleep. I am really upset about this, since I was seven when I got Fluffy, and I’m fourteen now, I had her for almost half my life. I just want to know, is there any insurance to make sure she survives this operation? I would also want to know if this matters with anything; Fluffy was given luquids to prepare her for the operation, and she seems perky, but last night she threw up in my room (again.)

Hi I'm sorry to hear about your kitty. I hope the prognosis is good after the operation. As far as insurance goes, at least from how I understand it, in order to actually get insurance, your animal needs to be healthy at the time of purchase of the policy. I don't think you can buy it hours before your animal is going through surgery. But I could be wrong. Others here may have more information on that. I think Kayla was asking not about insurance in the financial sense, but if there is anything she can do to guarantee that her kitty will make it through the operation. I'm afraid there are no guarantees. Every surgery carries a risk. Follow instructions and report EVERYTHING that happens to your vet so they have all the information they need to help your kitty. It helps if you have a vet you really have confidence in. Good luck to your kitty, and I hope everything turns out okay for her.

The diagnos was wrong, she didn't have a tumor, but her small intestine was rotted out, so they removed it and called me saying she was fine. Fifteen minutes later, we recieve another call saying she died. She was the best cat who I had about half my life. The healing process will be hard and long. Its really hard losing a pet. I can understand, my cat died when I was 14 and I had had him since I was six. Just know that you did the right thing by taking her to the vet. You took good care of her. I think pets go when it is their time and sometimes that is hard for us to understand. Sounds like she lived a good life with you. I firmly believe that we will see our pets again when we die, and that they are happy on the other side. I'm sorry for your loss. IP: Logged |
