Hello, I am new to this sight. So here is my first question. I have a 3 year old siamese cat who decided to stop eating, he is going on his 5th day today. We have been to the vet 2 times in the last 24 hours, just because we were so worried about him. You cannot tell he is sick at all, he plays, purrs, lets you hold him etc. The vet thought possibly there was something lodged somewhere, but nothing on the x rays. His white blood cell count is down alot. They tested for leukemia also, and that turned out fine. They said said he wasnt dehydrated, which surprises me since I have not seen him drink. I noticed on a past post that Pedalyte and baby food have worked for some, I have not tried that yet, but I think I will. He does use his litter box, but not much since he isn't eating. I have heard of kitty colds where if there nose is stuffed up they won't eat cause they can't smell there food. Last nite he started to do something different when we started to give him food, he started moving his mouth up and down like he had something caught. The vet thinks it is a gag reflex. Not sure cause he hasn't done that in the past. Any advice will help. Thanks. PS He is on amoxacilin now. IP: Logged |

Did the vet check the cats mouth also? I would definately try the baby food or maybe even canned cat food would work if it is dry that she is currently refusing. IP: Logged |

The vet did check his mouth briefly, Fitz was not very cooperative! He is refusing all foods, I did try the baby food he won't eat it himself, I put it on his paws and then he eats it. Weird...he act totally normal too! IP: Logged |

I just recently had this problem with my cat Chester. He appeared to be happy and healthy, but he was not eating anything. We tried Kitty milk formula (with no lactose) and he lapped at that a little, and he would lick the gravy off wet food but not actually eat anything. We ended up force feeding him, with a needless syringe you can get from the vet, pureed cat food. He didn't like that very much, but he kept the food down. The next day we took him to the vet - and like your cat, they could not find anything wrong with him. There was nothing in his intestines, nothing wrong with his teeth, and he wasn't severely dehydrated. But, they decided to hydrate him anyway - they put a water solution under his skin...we thought that now he surely wouldn't eat because the vet visit was so stressful. To our suprise that very night he started eating again! The vet also gave us high calorie food - A/D - in case he should ever stop eating again, this way he doesn't need to eat as much, or be syringe fed as much, and still get the calories he needs to be healthy. I hope this helps somewhat - good luck with your kitty! IP: Logged |
