My 16 year old apparently healthy female cat has had a little pink area (visible through white fur) around one of her claws for months now. Now it appears to be spreading to the other claw on the same paw, and around another claw on the other forepaw. It doesn't appear to be getting any worse around the original site. (She's never been declawed.) She still uses her scratching post without apparent discomfort. She does not appear to be in any discomfort and allows me to touch it to look at it and doesn't lick the area. It is just a little puffy, isn't weeping or anything, and is pink, not red. I'd rather not take her to the vet if not needed because she gets so traumatized by it I think it might be worse for her than leaving it alone and seeing what happens. Any ideas of what this is? My first thought was an infection (in the nail bed?) but I would imagine that would be rather painful. So long as it does'nt seem to be causing her any pain...I would probably wait and keep a good eye on it. IP: Logged |
