My cat has very short hair. When I took her into be spayed, they shaves a rather large portion of hair on her belly. The hair has grown in very thick and it's much longer than it was when I took her in. It looks silly, she appears to be bloated or pregnant. Can I get this hair cut back when I take her to the vet this fall for her routine checkup? IP: Logged |

I have the same thing with one of my spayed females. I have no idea why it has happened but in the end it doesn't bother her and gives her 'character'. Clipping the cats fur for cosmetic reasons would seem to be quite cruel as once you stop you will need to continue to keep it at a length you see as correct. Most cats will not tolerate being clipped out without a general anaesthetic, if I were you I would just love her for who she is even if she does look a bit daft. IP: Logged |

Thank you for your very wise and caring advice. I hadn't thought of cutting her hair as being cruel, I was concerned about her being humiliated by her appearance. I didn't realise that it would have to be done on a continual basis either. I'll leave it as it is. IP: Logged |

No Problem. I think most people humanise their animals a little too much in some situations. I doubt your cat is capable of feeling such emotions as humiliation. I know we all like to think of them as being little humans but in the end they aren't. I hope you can get used to your kitty with her fluffy tummy! IP: Logged |
