I'm fostering a very emaciated cat with 3 kittens. She has a running nose and won't eat. I've tried warming her food. Putting her in the bathroom while I take a hot shower.(It's almost 100 degrees...I really did NOT want that shower.) Giving her this booster stuff which she hates. (Dark brown syrupy stuff that's supposed to give them extra energy so they will eat.
She is nursing her litter which also have colds. The vet says that it is nothing more serious but I do NOT want to loose this cat. HELP!!!!!!!

Your vet may have said that it wasn't very serious, but a kitty that's not eating IS very serious...they get weak very fast, and that can lead to more serious problems..A cat with a runny nose may have a cold, she may not be eating because she has a fever, I would suggest taking her and getting a second opinion

I can take her back in Monday. Because she is a foster kitty, she isn't really mine and I have to use the pound vet. She ate Saturday morning but hasn't eaten significantly since. I just gave her 2 oz of kitten formula, one drop at a time and a serving of that calorie stuff. I'm going to give her another couple of ounces in 15 min or so. I agree that her failure to eat is very serious or I wouldn't be so paniced.

The kitten formula should have the nutrient she needs as well as water to keep her from getting too dehydrated. I'm trying to decide if 4 oz every 2 hours is enough. Any thoughts? Should I try giving her some cat food like it was a pill. She's still strong enough to get really angry but I wrap her up in a towel so she isn't nailing me with her claws.

Three days of force feeding and she finally decided to eat on her own...HURRAY!
Mixture
15 cc Gatorade (water plus electolytes)
3 oz cat food
1 cc cal stuff (brown syrupy stuff)

She got this three times a day and an additional 15 cc of Gatorade every hour. It's very hot here and nursing a litter takes a lot of fluids. Once she started drinking significantly, I reduced the number Gatorade sessions. I know how much I tried to get down her not how much she actually got. I was well decorated and so was she. Since she was cleaning herself, I debated just painting it on her. It would have been easier. If anyone knows a better way to do this, I'd really like to know. I used a syringe without the needle to shoot it into her mouth about 1cc at a time.
She's also on antibiotics and so are the kittens.
I hope all will be well with them.

I got a kitten not to long ago and had the same problem, she wouldnt eat. She also had a runny nose. I took her to the vet and the doctor told me that the problem could be since she has a runny nose she cant smell the food and recommended evey so often putting her near a bowl of food. And if that doesnt work put on piece of food in her mouth when shes near the bowl. She realized the bowl of stuff in front of her is the same as what i was feeding her and ate on her own after a day.

Good idea. I had been offering her food. She hadn't been eating it. I also tried warming it a little so that it smelled more. This often helps with a cat with a stuffed up nose. Since neither of those options worked it was force feeding time. The good news is that she's still nursing her kittens. I feed a different one every 2 hours except at night...I sleep 6 hrs straight. It's Peanut's turn next.
Hope your kitten is doing well.
